The Alpha Agility challenge 2009

This is a standard agility class for large grades 1 – 3 dogs. This will be the first heat of 8, to be held throughout the season at various venues, culminating in a Grand Final on Sunday 30th August 2009, at Stoneleigh Park Country Festival. The first 5 dogs from each heat will be invited to the final. In the event of previous heat qualification, the next highest partnership will be invited. Any handler may only handle 1 dog at the final. Any change of handler must be notified in writing within 4 days of the last heat. Failure to do so, will disqualify the partnership.

The ENZO memorial trophy

This will be given in memory of ENZO, who sadly lost his life very recently, but who loved his agility.

This will be given to the highest placed medium rescue dog in the Sunday agility class 31.

Please tell the ticket person if your dog is a rescue.

Training with ALISTAIR BRAY

Friday afternoon, at the show venue, 1.30 p.m. to 6.00 p.m. There will be 3 separate sessions during this time, possibly for grades 1-3, 4-5, and small and medium dogs ( depending on requirements). The cost will be £10.00 per handler and 1 dog. This is an excellent opportunity to receive a session of quality training from a top class trainer and handler. The session can be tailored to suit your needs. Please book by completing the form attached, and sending directly to Alistair.Or e-mail . 1 to 1 sessions will also be available over the weekend.

In accordance with Kennel Club Rules, large dogs who have not competed before 1st January 2006 and ALL Small and Medium dogs must have been officially measured before competing at a Kennel Club licensed agility show.

LARGE: Dogs measuring over 430mm (1ft 5ins) at the withers.

MEDIUM: Dogs measuring over 350mm (1ft 1.75ins) and measuring 430mm (1ft 5ins) or under at the withers.

SMALL: Dogs measuring 350mm (1ft 1.75ins) or under at the withers.

Camping
This may be limited on a first come, first served basis. Camping will be available from 1pm Friday 10th April till Monday 13th April at £20.00 per unit ( other nights by request) – Please inform us if you intend to arrive after 7 pm

All units must have a fire extinguisher or a bucket of water available at all times

Generators must not be left running unsupervised and may not be used between 9pm and 7am

Please note: Catering will be available from 7.45am on Saturday morning

CLASSIFICATION AND ELIGIBILITY

Please read carefully before filling in your entry form - refunds will not be given

Only first prizes and points gained in standard classes at Kennel Club licensed agility shows may be used for progression through the classes. (A dog is only eligible for one grade).

Grade 1
(Elementary) / For owners, handlers or dogs which have not gained a first place in an agility class or three first places in jumping classes at Kennel Club licensed agility shows. N.B. Owners, handlers or dogs previously qualified out of grade 1 (Elementary) are not eligible for this class.
Grade 2
(Starters) / open to dogs which are not eligible for grades 1,3,4,5,6,7, and have not gained a first place in an agility class or three first places in jumping classes at grade 2 at kennel club licenced agility shows, or elected to progress on points from grade 1. N.B. owners, handlers or dogs previously qualified out of Grade 2 (Starters) are not eligible for this class.
Grade 3
(Graduate) / Open to dogs which are not eligible for Grade 1 or 2 or have elected to progress on points from Grade 2 at Kennel Club licensed agility shows and dogs which are not eligible for Grades 4, 5, 6 or 7.
Grade 4
(Novice) / Open to dogs which have gained a first place in an Agility Class or three Jumping Classes at Grade 3 or elected to progress on points from Grade 3 at Kennel Club licensed agility shows and are not eligible for Grades 3, 5, 6 or 7
Grade 5
(Intermediate) / Open to dogs which have gained a first place in an Agility Class or three Jumping Classes at Grade 4 or elected to progress on points from Grade 4 at Kennel Club licensed agility shows and are not eligible for Grades 3, 4, 6 or 7
CLASS STRUCTURE: A class may either be held as a Graded Class or a Combined Class. A Graded Class may be scheduled for one or more consecutive Grades with separate results and awards issued for each Grade. A Combined Class may be scheduled for more than one consecutive grade with one overall set of results. More details can be found at: www.thekennelclub.org.uk
SPECIAL: Any places or wins gained in any special classes do not qualify the owner, handler or dog to any advancement in Open Agility classes.
PAIRS Large: A pair may consist of two large dogs.
JUMPING: Small/Medium: A pair may consist of any combination of Small or Medium dog, (two small, one small + one medium, two medium). Jump heights for both small and medium dogs will be 35cm.
STEEPLCHASE A jumping class. The course should be flowing, and consist of hurdles and
Tunnels only.
JUMP AND GO: This consists of two sections. A timed jumping course is first. On successful
completion of this the competitor then goes on to do a number of pieces of
contact equipment and / or weaves. Faults will be accrued in the usual
manner. In the event of clear rounds the fastest jumping round wins.
CIRCULAR A jumping class. The course should be flowing, and consist of any combination
JUMPING: of jumping equipment.
VETERAN These are aimed at dogs over 8 years old, on the day of the show, that still
CLASSES: enjoy agility but are unable to jump full height. They should not have jumped full
height any time in the 3 months prior to this competition. These classes may
consist of standard equipment, with the exception of weaves. All dogs will jump
35 cm, ( small height). We are unable to offer any lower height.
ANY SIZE This class is open to dogs not entered in any other class at the show (except
other anysize classes). It is particularily suitable for inexperienced dogs or
handlers, and dogs that are unable to compete at their full height for any
reason. The Class will have no weaves, tyre or contact equipment. Jump
height for all dogs will be 35 cm, (small height). The course will be simple and flowing.

Welfare of Dogs

An exhibitor (or competitor) whose dog is entered at a Kennel Club licensed event should take all reasonable steps to ensure the needs of their dog(s) are met, and should not knowingly put their dogs’ health and welfare at risk by any action, default, omission or otherwise. A breach of this Regulation may be referred to the General Committee for disciplinary action under Kennel Club Rules and Regulations.

RULES AND REGULATIONS

**Please note the word dog also means bitch**

1. Dogs entered at Kennel Club licensed Agility Shows must be registered at the Kennel Club in accordance with Kennel Club Regulations for Classification and Registration B. The registration number/Authority to Compete number will be required for each entry.

2. Entry Fees £2.60 per dog per class. £1.60 for members. Referred cheques will incur £10.00 bank charges.

3. There will be no prize money on offer at this Show.

4. The Committee reserves to itself the right to refuse entries.

5. Puppies under 18 calendar months of age on the first day of the Show are not eligible to compete for Kennel Club licensed Agility Shows.

6 a. Not For Competition entries will be accepted for dogs aged four calendar months and over. Dogs must be Kennel Club registered with their details recorded on the entry form.

7. The mating of bitches within the precincts of the Show is forbidden.

8. No bitch in season is allowed to compete.

9. No person shall carry out punitive correction or harsh handling of a dog at any time within the boundaries of the Show.

10. Dogs must not wear any type of slip, half-slip collar or lead when under test. A flat, close fitting, leather or webbing collar is permitted, providing the only attachment is a plain identification panel as an integral part of the collar i.e. not attached by a ring.

11. Should a judge be unable to fulfil the appointment to judge the Committee reserves the right to appoint another judge.

12. No competitor shall impugn the decision of the judge or judges.

13. Trophies and rosettes are supplied by sponsors as specified.

14. Kennel Club Standard marking Regulations apply.

15. The heights of the jump obstacles will be Large dogs – be between 550mm (1ft 9.6ins) and 650mm (2ft 1.6ins). Medium Dogs – be between 350mm (1ft 1.75ins) and 450mm (1ft 5.7ins).

16. The Height limit for dogs. a. Large Dogs – For dogs measuring over 430mm (1ft 5ins) at the withers. b. Medium Dogs – For dogs measuring over 350mm (1ft 1.75ins) and measuring 430mm (1ft 5ins) or under at the withers. c. Small Dogs - For dogs measuring 350mm (1ft 1.75ins) or under at the withers.

17. Judges at an Agility Show may not enter for competition a dog which is recorded in their ownership or part ownership; or handle a dog at the Show at which they are judging.

18. Withdrawal of dogs from Competition

A dog shall be withdrawn from competition and removed from an Agility Show if it is:-

a. A bitch which is in season. b. Suffering from any infectious diseases or contagious disease.

c. Interfering with the safety or chance of winning of an opponent. d. of such temperament or is so much out of hand as to be a danger to the safety of any person or other animal. e. Likely to cause suffering to the dog if it continues competing.
