Purple Level Parent Meeting

September 10th, 2016

Objectives:

·  Stroke development

·  Learning the fundamentals: develop an aerobic base, race strategy, etc.

·  Prepare for movement to the Blue level

·  Develop each swimmer as a participant, role model, and then leader within the level.

Expectations:

·  Swimmers are encouraged to attend one or two practices a week.

·  Follow directions

·  Focus and be mindful/respectful of peers, coaches, and competition

Practice Focus:

·  Make fundamental skills habits (stream line, underwater kick, racing starts & turns, and etc.)

·  Stroke technique

·  Develop an aerobic base – endurance throughout the season.

Equipment:

·  Fins, two pairs of goggles.

·  Extra/used equipment available to borrow for the ‘season.’

·  Please have all equipment on or before October 1st

·  Discounts available via The Swim Shop (please mention BRY Barracudas at check out)

Meet Focus:

·  Participation in all dual meets

·  Mini meets are available for swimmers ages 9 years old & under

·  Swimmers stay until the end of the meet (dual meets) or until the last team member swims (invitationals and championship meets)

·  UMLY Mini Mania Meet, Charley Hartley Silver Champs Meet, and/or MA Bronze Meet – tbd

Meet Entries:

·  All meets will be posted on our website, www.bryswimming.org.

·  Please be sure to indicate what days and sessions your swimmer would like to attend.

·  Dual meets: No fees attached; coaches will pick the swimmer’s events.

·  Invitationals/Championships: Fees charged per swimmer and event. Coaches will choose the swimmer’s events with the collaboration of the swimmer.

·  Coaches choose relays the day of the event

·  Late entries will not be accepted

·  Meet fees are charged automatically on the first of the month for last month’s meets.

Apparel:

·  Swimmers wear BRY team suit at all competitions.

·  All swimmers receive a team shirt and one (1) latex cap. Silicone caps may be purchased. Parents will receive a “BRY” shirt which they are highly encouraged to wear at meets.

·  Parkas, bags, and warm ups are optional.

·  BRY Swag gear will be available for purchase throughout the season.

·  Sneakers must be worn at swim meets.

Parent Roles & Responsibilities:

·  Coach – Parent – Swimmer partnership

·  Parent Pick Up Policy (posted on our website)

·  Model appropriate supportive team behavior

·  Support the coaches and the program that you chose for your children

·  Let the BRY coaches do the coaching – please do not give your child swimming or racing tips, critiques or special practices outside of our BRY practices as this tends to confuse our young athletes.

·  Contribute to home swim meets and other social events by providing materials and/or volunteering your time.

·  Volunteer – meets, Annual Campaign, and etc.

·  BPAC Parent Rep: TBD

Communication:

·  Website and emails are our primary source of communication.

·  Text alerts are a great way to get last minute info. Sign up instructions available on our site.

·  Group specific news/update section on our website.

·  Please call or email lead coach with any questions.

·  Notify coaches about any injuries, illnesses or other circumstances that may affect the swimmer’s participation or performance.

Schedule Notes:

·  September 24th: All custom orders for BRY apparel are due at the Swim Shop

·  October 1st: Fall Intra squad Meet

Please note the following YMCA of DE and USA Swimming Policies:

·  Coaches may not transport swimmers in their own vehicles.

·  Coaches may not participate in social networking or electronic communication with swimmers.

Both the YMCA of DE and USA Swimming have strict policies for the protection of program participants as well as education for coaches in the area of child protection.
