Bradford on Avon Flower Club Newsletter August 2015

As members of the Flower Club already know our programme secretary Lucy Ellis passed her National Demonstrator’s test taken at the end of July in Thornbury. This involved a lot of hard work on her part. Well Done Lucy- we are all proud of you!

Here are 2 of the designs that she did for her test.

After the success of the cream tea in June the club will be donating £200 to Jilly’s choice of charity- the Wiltshire Air Ambulance.

The club was asked if we could provide an informal flower demonstration to the residents of Firlawn Nursing Home in Holt. Cynthia Booth and Merle Edwards did this on 31st July and also made some small table arrangements to present to the residents.

Museli cake Recipe

Quite a few people asked for this recipe at the last meeting so here it is!

175g museli

150ml milk

175g self raising flour

190g demerara sugar

175g margarine

3 eggs- beaten

Place the museli in a small bowl and pour over the milk. Mix well and leave to stand for 30 mins.

Grease and line an 18cm- 7 inch diameter round cake tin.

Mix together the flour and 175g of the sugar. Rub in the margarine until the mixture resembles fine breadcrumbs.

Add the eggs and museli and beat well.

Spoon into the prepared tin and smooth the surface. Sprinkle over the remaining sugar and bake in the oven at 180 degrees C for 1 and a quarter hours until well risen.

Turn out and leave to cool on a wire rack.

Advance notice of a couple of events the committee are planning for next year.

August Outing. After much discussion we decided to organize a trip to Kew Gardens on Saturday 6th August 2016. Here are a couple of photos to whet your appetite! Cath is already booking the coach so put the date in your diaries!

Workshop with Jonathan Moseley.

To try something different we have managed to book Jonathan Moseley to run a workshop on Tuesday 13th October 2016. It will be a full day with Jonathan demonstrating 2 designs (still to be decided) and he then circulates helping everyone. All those coming will be asked to bring a plate of food for a sharing lunch. This will be suitable for beginners as well as more experienced people as a lot of help will be available. Much more information on this later.

Finally a note about membership of the club. We welcome visitors to our meetings and the cost is £5 per meeting. After 3 visits we ask that you should join the club. The annual cost is £40 which is good value for the amount of things organised- also the amount you have paid as a visitor is then taken off the membership.
