BPV Specialist Learning log

A BPV Specialist is a unique role for volunteers working in healthcare decision-making. Once registered, BPV specialists are expected to be:

  • familiar with the BPV Decision Framework and able to apply it in practice;
  • comfortable adopting the role of champion, co-ordinator and/or facilitator in applying the framework to a local decision;
  • confident in training others within and beyond their organisation in value thinking and the application of the BPV decision framework;
  • able and willing to support other organisations in their patch in learning more or running their own decision using the framework and related tools; and,
  • active participants in a community of practice with the other BPV Specialists.

It’s ultimately up to you to decide what learning activities you need to complete to allow you to become a confident and active BPV Specialist. The following is a list of learning activity suggestions to consider:

  • Attend a BPV Specialist training day in person in your region (programme of events coming soon)
  • Watch the webinar or videos, or complete the decision planning e-learning module in the BPV learning area provided at
  • Explore some of the case studies listed at
  • Read the literature listed at
  • Read the BPV promotional articles listed at
  • Engage in some of the set fortnightly learning activities that are provided to the BPV Community by joining at
  • Apply the framework or some of its toolsto your day job, in a retrospective, experimental or live capacity
  • Engage with colleagues by sharing your learning or requesting feedback on their experiences, either online or find a local BPV Specialist using the network map
  • Join a decision workshop as an observer at a neighbouring organisation

BPV Specialists can self-certify once they have logged enough learning activities to feel confident in their understanding of the BPV Decision Framework and their ability to apply the tools in practice.

To register yourself as a BPV Specialist email us at with:

  • Your name, role and organisation;
  • Your BPV learning activity log to date; and,
  • Your line manager’s name with confirmation of their support for your adoption of the role.

Once we’ve received these we’ll add a special badge to your Future-Focused Finance profile so that colleagues in your patch can find you.
