Boys Town Texas Awarded $100,000 grant from the Impact San Antonio Foundation

For Immediate Release –Monday, November 25, 2013

San Antonio, Texas – Boys Town Texas is pleased to announce that they are one of three recipients of a $100,000 grant from the Impact San Antonio Foundation. Boys Town Texas will use the funds to renovate 20 bathrooms in five foster homes located on the Boys Town Texas Campus. The bathrooms are 24 years old, and they have served over 500 children.

The renovations will begin soon. Renovations to the bathrooms will include new tile, fixtures, vanities, bathtubs, countertops and sinks. The new bathrooms will allow countless Boys Town foster youth a clean and comfortable space whether they live in the homes for six months or six years.

“Many children are lost in a confusing cycle of failed placements or services with no clear guidelines for achieving success. Renovating the bathrooms will make the kids feel like there is someone who cares about them and will give them a reason to take pride in their personal hygiene,” said Joyce Horner, Development Director at Boys Town Texas.

The Impact San Antonio Foundation awards grants through a competitive and vigorous process. After they narrowed the 123 applicants down to the top fifteen, members of Impact San Antonio visited the fifteen grant semi-finalists. The five finalists selectedwere then asked to give a ten minute slide show presentation that included photos of Boys Town Texas foster children and the worn bathrooms. Boys Town Texas invited Boys Town foster youth, Abby, to conclude their presentation to the 300 members of Impact San Antonio.

Impact San Antonio Foundation was founded by Kelly Hutchinson in 2004 as a women’s giving circle. Since the first grant was awarded in 2005, the organization has given $1,060,000 to San Antonio area non-profits. Every dollar of each member’s $1,000 donation is awarded to that year’s grant recipients.
