About the Boys & Girls Clubs of Hartford:

As the birthplace of the Boys & Girls Clubs movement, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Hartford (BGCH) has been at the forefront of youth development for more than 150 years. The mission of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Hartford is to enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring and responsible citizens.

Boys & Girls Clubs of Hartford is part of a national affiliation of local, autonomous organizations that work to provide safe and nurturing environments for children and teens to learn and grow. To better enrich the lives of children in the greater Hartford region, we offer programs and services in five core areas: character and leadership; education and career development; health and life skills; the arts; and sports, fitness and recreation.In addition to these core focus areas, we also have an Early Childhood Learning Program to enrich the lives of youth ages 3-5 years old and a Teen Program exclusively for youth ages 13 to 18 years old.

BGCH has the following club sites in Hartford: Asylum Hill Club, Trinity College Club, Southwest Club, Northwest Club, Bellizzi School, Capital Preparatory Magnet School, West Middle School and CT Juvenile Training School (Middletown).

General Summary:

Conducts programs, supervises, evaluates and conducts daily age-appropriate activities with targeted youths.

Key Job Responsibilities:

Program Development and Delivery:

  • Coordinates assigned program services and cooperative learning activities for youth that are both fun and instructional.
  • Supervises members in program area. Ensures safety of members and demonstrates positive values and ethical behavior through program quality and appearance of the Boys Club CJTS at all times.
  • Promotes and stimulates program participation.
  • Maintains accurate program attendance records and submits them in a timely manner.
  • Maintains positive relationships with members, their parents and/or guardians and school staff.
  • Displays a high level of enthusiasm and commitment for activities.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by management staff.

Skills/Knowledge Required:

  • Four year degree from an accredited college or university, or equivalent experience
  • Strong computer skills, Microsoft Office preferred
  • Strong interpersonal skills: oral ,written and presentation
  • Ability to deal with the general public in a professional, courteous manner, and ability to work weekends
  • CPR, First Aid and Public Service License is a plus
