MEMBERS ONLY PHOTOGRAPHY CONTEST AND EXHIBITION

Nature photography enthusiasts who are Arboretum members are invited to participate in the inaugural Boyce Thompson Arboretum Photography Contest and Exhibition. Entries may be submitted January 1 through March 31, and selected entries will be exhibited in the Arboretum gallery from June 1 through July 15. Proceeds support Arboretum programs.

FOUR (4) PHOTO CATEGORIES:  Plants  Animals (non-bird)  Birds  Landscapes

JUDGING: Professional and semi-professional photographers will evaluate entries based on image impact (message and feelings conveyed), clarity, color, contrast, composition, lighting, and photographic milieu. Judges will award three prizes in each category plus a Best of Show Prize and a Most Creative Prize. Judges will present awards for winning photos at the Awards Ceremony and Reception on Saturday June 7.

CONTEST RULES

1. Entrants must be current members of the Arboretum.

2. Entrants may register their photos by mail or on site January 1 through March 31.

3. Entry fee is $25.00 per photo, which must be paid at the time of submission. A maximum of two prints per category may be entered.

4. Entrants must have taken their photos at Boyce Thompson Arboretum, and the photos must have been taken within the past year.

5. Images must be black & white or color prints, 8" x 10" in size, captured with a digital or film camera.

6. Entrants must submit an electronic version (jpg format, minimum 300 dpi) of their photos and a signed release (available online) to facilitate possible future publication. The electronic version(s) may be delivered to the Arboretum on a memory stick or CD, or submitted via email.

7. Entries must be matted with white matting, 10" x 12" completed size. Framed photographs will not be accepted.

8. Any text that is not part of the original photo must be completely covered.

9. Entries must be labeled on the back with: 1) category, and 2) entrant's name, address, and phone number.

10. Although staff members are present during normal operating hours and the gallery is alarmed at other times, the Arboretum cannot guarantee the security of your photo(s).

11. Winning entries will be announced Saturday June 7 at the Awards Ceremony and Reception, 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

12. Winning entries will be displayed until 12:00 p.m. Tuesday July 15; all photographs and prizes must be claimed by 2:00 p.m. Wednesday July 16 unless previous arrangements have been made. Unclaimed photographs and prizes will not be returned unless a postage-paid, self-addressed envelope has been provided.

13. Arboretum staff members and their immediate families are not eligible to participate.
