Pre-school Activities

Our priority over the next few weeks is to settled the children into pre-school, helping them to build relations with peers and adults and familiarise themselves with the routines. Our theme for the first half term will be ‘All about me’ and we will be talking to the children about how they are the same and different from others eg; eye colour, age, who’s in their family etc.

From week commencing September 19th we will be looking at a letter of the alphabet each week. We will start with the letter A and continue through the alphabet to Z, focusing on the letter sound. If you child finds something that starts with the letter sound we are looking at that week, then please bring it in to show us.

On Friday 7th October we will be going on a walk with the children weather permitting and we would like you to join us, if possible.

Please can each child have a bag with spare clothes and nappies if appropriate in case of accidents or if they need to be changed after messy play.

WOW Board

We have a ‘wow’ board to celebrate some of the children’s achievements outside of pre-school. If your child has achieved something however small, please let us have a photo or complete a Wow slip so that we can add it to our display. In the past we have had pictures of children riding the bikes for the first time or getting dressed on their own.

Parents Information Board and Comments Box

We have a notice board in the lobby on the right as you come into the Pre-school where we display lots of useful information. There is also a comments box and notebook which we place outside the front door. We are always keen to have your feedback and comments either to a member of staff or through the comments box.Thank you to all those parents who returned the parental questionnaire at the end of the summer term.

Parents Afternoon

On Thursday 13th October we will be holding a parents afternoon. This is an opportunity to talk to your child’s key person about their progress and next steps. Please make an appointment with your child’s key person.

Website

Don’t forget that our website is up and running with lots of information about the pre-school. In the parents section all the forms we regularly use at Pre-school are available for you to print off. There is a regular slot with useful dates and term dates.

Uniform

Wewill shortly be putting in a uniform order please complete an order form if you would like to buy polo shirts and sweat shirts.

Toddler Group

Please note that there is a toddler group in the church hall once a month on a Thursday afternoon from 1.45 to 3pm. All are welcome from babies to pre-schoolers. Please see Debi Birch if you would like further information.

Parent Help

The pre-school operates as a charity and relies heavily on parental support. We have a number of general maintenance jobs that need doing in the pre-school. We urgently need some help with these, if you, any family or friends are willingly to donate some time we would greatly appreciate it. If your skills don’t lie in DIY but you would like to become a committee member or help out in some other way then please speak to Louise Lidsey or Claire Marray.

We always welcome parents and members of the community into pre-school so if you would like to help with a particular activity or have a special talent you would like to share with the children then please come and talk to us. We always appreciate help with the garden and washing up too.

Donations

The pre-school is a charity and we rely on funds raised by the committee to pay for our summer trip, Christmas party and new equipment and toys. We always appreciate donations of play sand for our 2 sand pits, seeds and occasionally toys.

Christmas Cards

I know it is probably too early to mention Christmas but we will as in previous years be printing Christmas cards produced by the children. This year we will have a new on line system.
