SAT PREP SYLLABUS (W2115)

Ms. Teri KopackPhone (970) 259-1630 ext. 2203Email:

Welcome to SAT Prep! Here’s the official course description: This course helps students prepare for the SAT test by strengthening test-taking skills while reviewing high school math, reading and writing. The course also works in conjunction with the Counseling & Academic Advisement Department to help students with the college application process.Unofficially, in this class, you will be exposed to a variety of activities that expect you to think about your past learnings and plan for your future outside of high school. I challenge you to think and to act in a way that will benefit your future! I expect you to approach everything that we do with energy and a positive attitude, and you can expect the same from me!

Supplies:

  • District provided SAT Prep book. (Kaplan SAT Premier 2017)
  • Binder with 4 sections (SAT test, SAT Language, SAT Math, and College & Career)
  • Your daily warm-ups should be placed on individual papers to be checked at the end of each month for a completion grade. One week for each sheet of paper. These will be posted on my weebly site if you miss class or come late. Please be sure to get them and stay organized!
  • We will have open-note quizzes periodically throughout the semester. You are expected to keep your papers and information organized to be successful on these quizzes.
  • This binder will also serve you as a condensed study tool prior to the April SAT exam AND allow for more focused studying if/when you decide to take the exam again for a higher score (if desired)

Additional Class Supplies (by LAST name):

Expectations: As a general rule, I abide by the Student Responsibilities in the DHS Student Handbook.

Behavior: I expect you each day to follow the 6 P’s (prompt, prepared, polite, positive-mental-attitude, participate, produce) and the 5 attending skills: be in the moment, use appropriate body language, use appropriate eye contact, give appropriate feedback, and ask questions to clarify or validate. If your behavior interferes with classroom instruction, we will work together with your parents, counselor, and administrator to change the disruptive behavior. You are young adults; expect to be treated that way with regard to most everything we do.

Attendance:Only miss class if it’s absolutely necessary. Please don’t interrupt instruction if you are tardy. Whenever possible, make arrangements for work BEFORE an absence—this especially applies to school-sponsored athletics and activities. See attendance and tardy policy in handbook for more information, since I follow these rules.

Makeup Work:If you are absent, the expectation is that you will make up the work you missed. My Weebly site ( should have most items up within a day or two of being assigned. *Please be aware that this is a work in progress, as I previously used google classroom and am currently switching everything over to the weebly site. Your classmates are another valuable resource if you’ve missed class. Call someone for the assignment you missed. I will also utilize the Remind program to keep you up-to-date on upcoming deadlines for both class and the SAT. To enroll, please send a text to 81010. In the message box, please type: @kadhke . You may also email me at .

Homework:I will provide time in class for almost everything assigned in the class. Homework will only occur when a class is missed or you do not finish the work in the time allotted in class.

Late Work: All work is expected to be turned in on time. I will almost always accept work on the day it is due until 4pm to be considered “on time.” There are a few exceptions to this:

  1. When an assignment is specifically needed for the class period in which it is due (presentations, small group requirements, etc.). I will ALWAYS tell you when this is the case!
  2. During the last 2 weeks of the semester, I will NOT accept late work for previously assigned work. This means that ALL work from the semester is due on May 19th. The only work that I will accept between May 20th and finals is the work that is assigned between those dates.

Cell Phones and Electronic Devices:Thank you for using them appropriately at all times. Keep yours turned off and in your backpack. If I see it being used at a time of learning, it will be confiscated and brought to the office for you to retrieve at the end of the day. This type of class is usually only offered at private prep schools. Do not waste this opportunity by being distracted and disrespectful.

Hall Passes:Please fill out your student planner with the date, time, and destination, and politely ask me to sign it without disrupting class if you need to leave the room. No planner = no leaving. No passes the first or last 10 minutes of class, please. If you abuse this privilege it will be revoked.

Assessments: Your grade each semester will be based on:

  • 30% Formative Assessments
  • 30% Summative Assessments
  • 20% Performance Character Report Card
  • 20% Final Exam

The following websites will be very valuable to you during both this class and your further research and planning for your future. We will spend some time during the first week of class getting signed up with accounts for each, but please be sure to do this if you happen to miss that day. I STRONGLY encourage students to use their school email so their personal email accounts do not become bogged down with emails from colleges. If you do not know or use your school email account currently, please speak with Mr. Powell immediately to get that set up. I also encourage you to use the same password for all of these accounts to make remembering them easier, as it will be weeks in between our work with each individual website.

  • Naviance (I will need to open your individual account for this one. This is where you complete ICAP requirements)
  • Collegeboard (This is where you will register for optional tests, get your scores for tests and look up college info)
  • Khan Academy (This is a great resource for the SAT & ACT and allows you to sign up for daily practice sent directly to you!)

Fill out and return this portion, please, by Monday

We have read this course expectation/syllabus and understand the requirements of SAT Prep
