FLEXIBLE ACRYLIC MORTAR ADMIXTURE
***** This product guide specification can be used to specify Hydroment 447 Flex-A-Lastic Admixture, a flexible, high solids, acrylic mortar admixture designed to improve the performance of Hydroment Tile-Mate thin-set mortars. Thin-set mortars enhanced with Hydroment 447 Flex-A-Lastic Admixture become flexible, high strength, freeze-thaw resistant systems. Refer to Bostik Findley product literature for recommended admixture uses and application instructions.
Since Hydroment 447 Flex-A-Lastic Admixture is not used alone but in conjunction with other thin-set mortars, it is unlikely that a separate specification would be prepared for this admixture. Instead the description and requirements stated in this guide would be incorporated into a broader scope section such as SECTION 09300 - TILE. The various paragraphs will need to be inserted in the appropriate locations in either Part 1, 2, or 3 of that section. This guide can also be combined with other guides to develop SECTION 09305 - TILE SETTING MATERIALS AND ACCESSORIES. *****
PART 1 - GENERAL
1.1SUMMARY
A.Section includes: Flexible, high solids, acrylic mortar admixture to be added to thin-set mortar to improve performance characteristics.

B.ANSI A118.11 - (Exterior Glue Plywood) Latex-Portland Cement Mortar.
1.3SUBMITTALS
A.Provide in accordance with Section 01330 - Submittal Procedures: Product data and installation instructions.
1.4PRODUCT HANDLING
A.Ensure that admixture does not freeze during delivery, storage, and application.
B.Store in clean, dry area at temperatures between 35 and 100 degree F.
C.Shelf life: Do not use admixture after 1 year from manufacturing date.

2.2PRODUCTS
A.Flexible acrylic mortar admixture:
1.Type: Flexible, high solids, acrylic mortar admixture that can be added to thin-set mortars to improve performance characteristics; Hydroment 447 Flex-A-Lastic Admixture as manufactured by Bostik Findley, Inc.
2.When admixture is added to Hydroment Tile-Mate thin-set Portland cement mortars, enhanced properties shall be not less than:
a.Thin-set Portland cement mortar with admixture shall exceed requirements of ANSI A118.4 and ANSI A118.11.
b.Open time at 70 degrees F: 40 to 60 minutes minimum.
c.Adjustability time at 70 degrees F: 50 to 90 minutes.
d.Final set at 70 degrees F: 18 hours.
e.Tensile strength: 546 PSI.
f.Flexural strength: 1,175 PSI.
g.7 days shear strength:
1)Porcelain tile: 600 PSI.
2)Glazed wall tile: 658 PSI.
3)Quarry tile: 450 PSI.
***** Hydroment Tile-Mate with Hydroment 447 Flex-A-Lastic Admixture can withstand substrate deflections of L/240 except for setting natural stone tile where deflections may be limited to L/720. Contact Bostik Findley, Inc for stone tile setting recommendations. *****

PART 3 - EXECUTION
3.1APPLICATION
***** Hydroment 447 Flex-A-Lastic Admixture can be added to Hydroment Tile-Mate Portland cement thin-set mortars to increase flexibility, shear and tensile strength, and freeze-thaw resistance. Thin-set mortars with Hydroment 447 Flex-A-Lastic can be applied to concrete, existing ceramic and resilient tile, exterior grade plywood, waterproofing and crack isolation underlayments, and other substrates. Contact Bostik Findley or refer to product literature for determining appropriate applications and limitations. *****
A.Mix and use flexible acrylic mortar admixture in accordance with manufacturer's recommendations and installation instructions.
B.Mixing: Mix 6 to 7 quarts of flexible acrylic mortar admixture to 50 pounds of thin-set Portland cement mortar with slow speed mixer at 150 RPM maximum. Allow mixture to stand 15 minutes and re-mix. Do not re-temper by adding more liquid.
