Course Title: ITL 170 Literature, Culture and Civilization of Italy

Course Number: ITL 170
Course Description: This liberal arts elective is an introduction to the evolution and development of Italian culture and civilization through the literature and artistic features, geared to the understanding of present day problems of modern European Italy and the Italian-American people. Readings are in English and term papers are in English.

Weekly posting is mandatory. Missing assignments has direct impact on your ability to succeed in this course and can modify the percentage of your grade.
Written Assignments: Papers must be double-spaced and in MLA format No late papers will be accepted. 80% of the grade will be based on the first draft. Upon receiving comments from the instructor, you have one week to revise the first draft. Please submit the revised version with the original one. 20% of the grade will be based on the quality of the revision.
QUIZZES: There will be 6 quizzes during the semester. Late submissions will not be accepted.
OFFICE HOURS: 2 on line office hours and one in person office hour (by appointment).

College Attendance Policy
At BMCC, the maximum number of absences is limited to one more hour than the number of hours a class meets in one week. For example, you may be enrolled in a three-hour class. In that class, you would be allowed 4 hours of absence (not 4 days). In the case of excessive absences, the instructor has the option to lower the grade or assign an F or WU grade.
