Irreverent brewery, BrewDog, today announced the appointment of new Head of Production in the US, Tim Hawn, who will bring 19 years of industry experiencetolaunchBrewDog’s craft revolution across the Atlantic.

Tim has been recruited from craft brewery Dogfish Head, where he was Brewmaster for nearly five years. Prior to that, Timspent 14 years building invaluable experience at craft breweries across the US. Like many in the craft beer industry, Tim started out as a home brewer, a hobby he juggled with a naval career – making him a natural fit forthe ramshackle pirate ship that is BrewDog.

Tim Hawn, new Head of Production for BrewDog USA comments:

“I do everything from source malt to select hops. I do the initial formulation for new beers after gathering input from the team and then lead the production teams from brewing and cellaring, packaging and purchasing. What makes BrewDog exciting is the ethos around putting the quality of the beer at the heart of every decision – regardless of cost or resource.”

A big fan of independent craft brewing, Tim comments that the beer movement is already on a huge upwards curvein the US, picking out craft breweries such as Logsdon Farmhouse Ales in Oregon, Funky Buddha in Florida, Nebraska Brewing, famous for itsbarrel aged beers, and of course Dogfish Head as leading the charge. BrewDog will be a welcome addition to the booming industry as more Americans choose beer brewed with careand passion over bland, mass-produced options.

The brewery will add another place to visitand enjoy great beers to the already incrediblebeer food culture in Columbus. Tim is aiming to kick-off the brewing with some exciting spins onSaisons, and bold, hoppy classic BrewDog IPAs with notes of papaya, apricot and citrus.

On what it takes to be an outstanding brewer, Tim says:

“I have to wear many hats in my job. I have to be creative, coming up with the idea for a new beer with the team, then be a scientist for the brewing process, then an engineer handling all the equipment. And most importantly, a student. In all my time in the brewing industry, I’ve not gone a single day without learning something new about beer, brewing or people.”

BrewDog co-founder James Watt, comments:

“Tim isincredibly knowledgeable about brewing, not afraid to take risks, and he puts the beer above everything else, just like we do at BrewDog. His appointment at BrewDog Ohio is his chance to throw the remainder of the rules out of the window and start creating bold, badass, unapologetically epic beers that will take the US by storm. We can’t wait to finish putting together the team and open our doors.”

BrewDog USA’s North American HQ will be the main site for all BrewDog USA beer production, as well as boasting a restaurant, taproom, and visitor centre. BrewDog’sAmerican dream would not be possible without the army of Equity Punk investors, who will all now own a stake in BrewDog USA. As the US brewery in Columbus, Ohio, prepares to unleash the BrewDog beast across America, BrewDog has unveiled the crack team leading the operation, including Sierra Nevada alumnus Jason Davis as Vice President of Sales.

In its first year the brewery will produce over 85,200 barrels, ramping up in years 2and 3until it reaches 852,000 barrels. This will not only satisfy the thirst for quality craft beer in the US, but includes scope to export to other nearby hop-loving nations.

In the last couple of years BrewDog has opened craft beer bars in places as far flung as São Paulo, Rome and Hong Kong, as well as UK venues including Soho, Aberdeen, Leeds, and Brighton. The brewery in Columbus will create an estimated 124 jobs, and though the majority of business will be concentrated ina 250-mile radius in Columbus, Ohio, Tim expects to achieve a strong presence and acceptance throughout the entire US.

What is BrewDog?

Since 2007 BrewDog has been on a mission to make other people as passionate about great craft beer as we are. From the Headliner series, which includes bold, uncompromising pack leaders like theflagship Punk IPA, to the Amplified range(beer, but turned up to 11), BrewDog creates beer that blows people’s minds and has kick-started a revolution.

Cofounders James Watt and Martin Dickie shook up the business world in 2010 with the launch of pioneering crowdfunding scheme Equity for Punks, an initiativethat has seen the company raise £20m over four rounds, taking more money through crowdfunding than any other on record. The funds, and the army of punk shareholders (35,000 and rising) enabled the Scottish craft brewery to scale up without selling out.

With over 40 global bar launches, export into 55 countries, and a brand new brewery in Ohio opening in August 2016, BrewDog continues to take the craft beer revolution stratospheric, whilst continuing to push the boundaries, invest in people, put the beer first, and champion other small breweries in its venues.
