Buchbeschreibung: FILMING T.E. LAWRENCE. Korda's Lost Epic; London/New York, I.B Tauris Publishers 1997: FIRST EDITION IN DUSTJACKET, 21.5 x 13.5cm, black boards, 172pp, 13 b&w photos, acknowledgements, Introduction: "Filming Lawrence, How I Shall Play Lawrence" by Leslie Howard, Lawrence of Arabia: The Screenplay, index, black dj lightly rubbed, else NEW/NEW. ** Authored by Andrew Kelly, Jeffrey Richards and James Pepper. ~The 1962 Sam Speigel-David Lean "Lawrence of Arabia" was only the final, successful attempt to dramatize T.E. Lawrence's are adventures on screen; three decades earlier, in 1934, Britain's then premier film producer, Alexander Korda, had secured the film rights to Lawrence's book, "Revolt in the Desert". So began Korda's 4 year saga of attempts to film Lawrence's life in the face of opposition from the British government. Korda failed in his attempts, but the screenplay for the film was recently re-discovered and is reproduced here, forming the core of this book. It is a fascinating document, giving us a fresh interpretation of the character of T.E. Lawrence, as well as a version of events that is a graphic example of film makers at work under the threat of political censorship, exercised in this case by the British Foreign Office. Leslie Howard was to play the part of Lawrence in this film. Also reproduced here is his illuminating account of how he planned to approach the role.~ [O'Brien E486] ISBN: 1860640486.
