Summer Camp booking form

West Waterford Hunt Branch of the Irish Pony Club

At Fort William Estate, Glencairn

From 3rd to 7th July 2017

By kind permission of the Evans Bevan Family

Camp week for most our members is the highlight of their summer (many would say the highlight of their year) – They really enjoy it so much, and learn a lot at the same time. The success of Camp Week is very much dependent on having everything right for the members, and for that reason parents’ participation in camp week is vital.

All parents of Children attending Camp are expected to commit time to help with camp set up on Friday 30th June (7pm - 9:30pm) and for a minimum of one half day during the week of camp.

There are many areas for set up; fencing arenas, making stables with gates, unloading show jumps and making matching jumps, setting up two cross-country courses. Not all of this is done on the Friday evening and offers of help are much appreciated.

We will have a BBQ on Wednesday evening at approx 5:30pm and a presentation Friday afternoon the end of camp. At the end of the week, all parents are again expected to help in taking down camp, and tidying up so that we leave Fortwilliam in the same or improved state as we found it. The gates have to be loaded onto trailers and sheds swept out before departure.

In returning an application form for your child to attend camp week, you are agreeing to participate as set out above.

Tack inspections will be done before riding. If on Monday morning your child is told that his/her tack is not in order, we expect you to deal with the issue. Your child will not be allowed to ride with unsafe tack and other issues (e.g. cleanliness). Issues that have been highlighted to you or your child and are not dealt with appropriately will lead to your child not being allowed to ride with the same tack again.

Camp is a very exciting time; we ask members and parents to be vigilant in assessing their own ponies and horses. If your animal is very excited it may be beneficial to give it a lunge first thing in the morning, before riding. Please feel free to discuss with your instructor or ask for help. Also, the instructors will need assistance at times so please be ready and willing to help.
