You must choose a book of your own that is at your reading level and appropriate for school. The book must be at least 250 pages long and needs to be approved by Mrs. Jackson.
- Your book choice is due in class by September 12
For this project you will be creating a movie poster. This must be on a large posterboard and should advertise your book as if it was made into a movie. You MUST have this in class with you on October 17. You also need to write a summary of the book on one page. This MUST be typed. You will not read this to the class, but will tell about your book in your own words.
This is a hard due date. Presentations of these items will be given that day (and possibly the next two days if we run out of time). Any projects brought in after this date will be given a 75%. If they are not in by Wednesday, they are given a min. F (50%). Be sure to include the 5 story elements in your presentation. You have a 3 minute time limit for the presentation of your poster.
Plot: What the story is about.
Setting: Where and when the story takes place
Characters – What is the main character(s) like, and how do they change throughout the book?
Climax /Turning Point – The most exciting part of the book. This is usually where the book’s problem is solved.
Theme – The moral or lesson of the story. What does the author want you to learn from the book.
When preparing for your presentation, be sure to practice out loud. You should not be reading from your project. If it isn’t memorized, you should use note cards so that you are always facing your audience. You need to speak in full sentences and avoid saying ummmm. You should also be making eye contact with the members of your audience. This aspect of the presentation is worth a large portion of your grade.
You will be graded on the quality of the poster, the time and effort you put into it, the writing of the summary, having it typed, your verbal presentation and poise, as well as not going over time.
Grading:
*Having your APPROVED book in class September 12 = 20 points
*1 page summary typed, correct spelling, grammar = 20 points
*List main points of book with 7 story elements = 20 points
*Share opinion at the end of your presentation = 20 points
*Poster has all 7 story elements = 20 points
*Appearance of the poster with pictures = 20 points
*Facts are listed and correct on the poster = 20 points
*Student is prepared and has practiced = 20 points
*Student speaks clearly and makes eye contact = 20 points
*Presentation is 3 – 4 minutes long = 20 points
TOTAL POSSIBLE!!!!! 200 points!!!!!
