MEETING CALLED TO ORDER BY PRESIDENT
President Kottke called the meeting to order at 5:30 p.m. Roll was taken and is recorded above.
DISCUSSION/ACTION ON MINUTES OF THE JANUARY 14, 2012 SCHOOL BOARD MEETING AND THE JANUARY 21, 2013 OAKS COMMUNITY CHAT
Mr. Panzer, seconded by Mr. Kraft, moved to approve the minutes of the January 14, 2013 School Board meeting and the January 21, 2013 Oaks Community Chat as presented. Motion carried: 5 ayes, 0 noes, 2 absent.
DISCUSSION ON MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDY TEAM RECOMMENDATION
Mr. Dercks and the Middle School Study Team presented the recommendation for the middle school concept for the 2013-2014 school year. A school map was shared to give a visual of how the restructuring of the Jr/Sr High School would look. Discussion took place with board and community members regarding the schedule, transition, curriculum, staffing, and remodeling.
DISCUSSION/ACTION ON POST PROM BOWLING COST
Mr. Panzer, seconded by Mr.Kraft, moved to approve spending up to $1,200 toward the 2013 post prom bowling cost. Motion carried: 7 ayes, 0 noes, 0 absent.
DISCUSSIONON HEALTH INSURANCE, GREG KUETZ FROM AFG WILL BE PRESENT FOR QUESTIONS
Mr. Kuetz, from AFG shared areas of discussion regarding health care. Topics of discussion included ObamaCare and what it means to the district, PPACA, the federal health care law, and other policy options.
DISCUSSION ON LEGISLATIVE ISSUES
Principal Heinzelman shared a few legislative issues including State Representative Thiesfeldt’s comments on Governor Walker’s State of the State speech , the Mining Bill, FlexOption for credit, a healthy transportation system, and a 484 million dollar surplus.
STUDENT REPRESENTATIVE REPORT
Mr. Liebelt shared activities going on at the Jr/Sr High School including the Dorian Music Festival in Iowa, a parent meeting was held to discuss having an eight man football team, the ag competition was being held tonight, January 28, 2013, and the conference forensics meet will be Monday, February 4, 2013 at the Oakfield Elementary School.
DISCUSSION/ACTION ON NEW EMPLOYEE
Mr. Panzer seconded by Mrs. Murphy-Steinke, moved to hire Keelya Georg in the childcare center for three hours a day. Motion carried: 7 ayes, 0 noes, 0 absent.
DISCUSSION ON AUDIT BID
Administrator Yoder informed the Board that the school district is due for an audit bid this year. Following board discussion, they decided to move forward with advertising our audit bid for the 2012-2013 school year.
DISCUSSION ON REALTOR LETTER
Administrator Yoder shared with the Board the letter she had drafted up to send to the area realtor companies. Letter was approved to send out.
REPORT ON WASB CONVENTION
President Kottke, Administrator Yoder, and John Nyhuis shared their attendance at the WASB Convention. Mr. Nyhuis reviewed the resolutions voted on at the convention.
UPDATE ON CESA 6
Mrs. Patterson shared her attendance at the CESA 6 Meeting, distributed a CESA 6 directory, and shared chapters in their book study on “Schools Cannot Do It Alone”.
ADMINISTRATIVE REPORTS
Principal Yoder informed the Board that we have our first draft back of our updated policy manual, the Athletic Banquet will be on March 11, 2013 and asked the board to change the time for our board meeting that night to 5:00 p.m. so everyone can attend the banquet, and shared the responses to the letters the board sent out to our congressman, representatives, senator, and governor.
Principal Heinzelman shared his attendance at a student’s record meeting at Waupun School District and that on Saturday the girls basketball team played CWC and brought in the ARC group to shoot around with the girls before the game and had refreshments and snacks after the game with them.
A board member questioned the procedure for public comment.
