Position: Voluntary Head Coach (Competitive Swimming)

Location: BLYTH LEISURE CENTRE, BLYTH, NORTHUMBERLAND

Blyth Lifeguard and Swimming Club is a voluntary community organization which is seeking a suitably qualified and experienced Head Coach to lead and develop the club’s Competitive Section. This is an exciting opportunity for those wishing to be involved with a local successful well respected community group which is involved in a wide variation of aquatic activities.

Blyth Lifeguard and Swimming Club is a swim 21 accredited club, which is supported by a number of volunteers with approximately 375 members covering a wide range of ages and abilities.

You must be qualified to UKCC Level 3 Coaching Swimming (or currently working towards) and possess an appropriate pool lifeguard qualification (or committed to obtaining such a qualification within an agreed timescale).

The successful candidate must demonstrate the ability to effectively lead the coaching team, inspire high goals and expectations, to promote a positive attitude to training and be a good team player. They will be required to be an active Executive Committee member and to work with the Lifeguard Captain for the benefit of those swimmers who take part in both competitive and lifesaving competitions.

CLUB COACH – EXECUTIVE POST - JOB DESCRIPTION

RESPONSIBLE TO:Executive Committee

RECOMMENDED QUALIFICATIONS:

ASA Club Coach Certificate Level 3 or higher qualification.

A first aid certificate would also be recommended

Either RLSS National Pool Lifeguard or National Rescue Award for Swimming Teachers and Coaches.

SKILLS REQUIRED:

  • Ability to motivate & encourage swimmers of all abilities
  • Communicate effectively with club members, parents and committee.
  • Show an appropriate competent level of technical knowledge.
  • Good time management, ability to use time efficiently and effectively using the long term athlete development plan.
  • Sound administration skills
  • Commitment to attend certain weekend events to support club swimmers
  • Ability to formulate training and competition programmes to reflect the needs of all levels of ability; focusing on continuing the successes of the club.

MAIN DUTIES

1)Follow and promote the ASA Child Protection policy

2)Develop and update with the help of the Lane Coaches a rolling 12-month forward training programme for all squads.

3)Allocate water time to the squads after consultation with the club committee.

4)Allocate swimmers to squads after consultation with Lane Coaches.

5)Ensure that training schedules are prepared for the squads.

6)Deliver the clubs coaching programme in conjunction with supporting Teaching and Coaching Team.

7)Understand and apply the facility Emergency Action Plan and Normal Operating Procedures.

8)Attend all competitions, or organise appropriate deputy from Coaching Team.

9)Select a team in consultation with Lane Coaches.

10)Advise the team of gala arrangements.

11)Ensure that all appropriate swimmers are registered to swim in the appropriate competitions.

12)Ensure that each team member behaves appropriately.

13)Promote team spirit.

14)Submit results to PRO for publication in press, notice boards etc.

15)Submit results to Club Records Officer to update swimmer’s records.

16)Encourage all Coaches to obtain an appropriate ASA qualification.

17)Act as delegate to relevant competitive, county and district meetings

18)Attend to other such "general" duties associated with the post of Club Coach.

19)Be aware of Continuous Professional Development Opportunities (CPD) and strive to update and enhance relevant qualifications.
