Pain Killers / CU explained she had run a Dementia Friends course with the MHHC staff and results were given in hard copy. This is to be an agenda item for the November meeting.
CU also explained the Care Bank Newsletter which contains some of the activities she is involved with:
-Sunday Lunch Club – this is attended well with up to 30 people however, volunteers are required to support this event and help at the lunch.
-Men in Sheds – a new initiative from the Mental Health Charity and a group of Volunteers are needed to take on a plot on our local allotment. It will need 2 people to take this on.
-FFF – only a few people attend, needs more advertising.
CU also attended a Well Being event at the Rhodes Centre in Bishop’s Stortford which saw 80+ responses to CU’s A5 leaflet.
Face Book pages to be used to advertise the above.
Little Hadham Village Hall to have Care Bank leaflet left there.
Widford Village Hall to have Care Bank Leaflet left there.
Copy of leaflet to be sent to each village Parish magazine. CS to send contact details of each to CU.
Leaflet outlining all the activities available in the villages to be completed.
MF spoke about her inspiration for walking having been sparked by an NHS programme on statins and it occurred to her to invite folk to come out on her walks with her accompanied by her/their dogs. This ties in with the East Herts initiative for walking.
MF and CU to find out more about this initiative and bring to next meeting with an agenda point.
AW explained that the Dispensary has the same opening hours as the surgery.
AW to add this to the website.
The group discussed a newspaper article about doctors and the use of painkillers. AW explained that every patient has a 6 month medication review and from a practice point, this is completed and done very well. There is also an Annual Drum which is a practice review and covers things like are medicines required (?) and are they used (?).
AW to discuss with the Partners so they are aware the PPG has raised the point of painkiller usage. / HL

IT Rolling screen / Being used with up to date relevant matter.
Returning University Students / CS gave overview as to how this topic had been initiated.
AW gave an outline as to how the practice would like Returning Students to be handled and NHS digital info has been requested.
The Practice has voiced its thoughts to the CCG that the system in place currently with the NHS is the wrong way around. It is unlikely to change however.
AW to put an information sheet together for returning students so as the process is clear. / AW
Foreign Holiday Vaccinations / It was raised that identifying which inoculations are needed and where to get them from for foreign holidays was not easily found and sought.
AW advised that there are two websites that can be accessed for such information and there is also information on the MHHC website.
AW also advised that a Travel Clinic at H&E hospital is currently being reviewed and a business plan created to see about its viability. It would be a one stop shop almost.
AW to put together a current information sheet for patients. / AW
NHS appliance returns / KK has found that the Red Cross in Harlow and Herts Equipment Supplies do take used wheelchairs, rollaters and tri-walkers for re use.
AW to place on the rolling screen that the two above mentioned charities can be used. / AW
Ideas for coming year. / It was agreed that our focus should centre on dementia as it is a topic we are currently working with. To raise awareness of the activities already on offer within the MHHC parish and to get behind other projects in the making ie dog walking, Men in Sheds etc. / FOR
2018/19
Matters arising from meeting on 20/04/17 / PW to give content for Down at the Doctors to advertise the Forever Active Club. PW has had enormous success with this which needs to be shared and advertised for new people to join if they wish. / PW
Repeat prescriptions – an audit of Epi pens and GN sprays is to be carried out to ensure all patients with these items have correctly dated items. / AW
Locality meetings – it reads in the minutes that KK was happy to attend these meetings if CF was unable to. This needs to be removed as this is not the case, KK is unable to attend these meetings.
Bereavement guide – this document has been sent to the Locality group via CF. It was received well and has since been sent to all the GP practices within the Locality Group. Splendid work AW.
Dementia Friend training – as detailed already, Staff have completed a training session and the Doctors training session is to follow soon.
A.O.B. / Gilston Development – MHHC to be aware of the boarders of the practice so as not to inadvertently take on any patient from this new development such as a patient currently registered that may move there.
Warfarin – Blood test results for INR – if the practice sent for this blood test it will come back to the practice. If the blood test is initiated elsewhere then it does not. X-ray etc do come back to the practice.
Suicide – the rate in young uni students is high and in the national press currently with spotting the signs of suicide early being very important. GP’s are trained and refreshed in this area.
Defibrillators – MB highlighted that the Widford defib had not been registered with the emergency services causing some extra distress when the unit was used in an emergency which occurred in the village. It is thought that because the unit did not require a code to access it, it had been missed. The emergency services are aware of it now. This is something to be aware of in the future where new defibs are fitted.
Map showing defibs placement within the MHHC parish to be created. This is ongoing currently. / PR/HL
Flu Vaccinations – AW advised that all clinics are full and others are to be scheduled. Text reminders have been sent out to patients as a reminder. Doctors are administering the vaccination where appropriate, to patients they see in clinic.
Moving forward, gathering of mobile numbers and email address along with the updating of mobile numbers would be of benefit.
Meeting closed at 14:30hrs.
