Position Summary:The Director of Finance has the responsibility of insuring that the church’s
financial operations are processed and reported accurately and with integrity. In this position, this individual will oversee all accounting activities related to auditing, accounts payable, accounts receivable, tax compliance, and payroll.
Organizational Relationships:
To whom is this position accountable: Executive Director
Positions accountable to this position: Business Manager, Bookkeeper
Advises, consults and coordinates with:Executive Director, Church Treasurer,
F&P Chairman, Business Manager, Staff, Auditor, and Financial Institutions.

Essential Responsibilities:
  • Assist in maintaining the highest possible ministry standards and professional ethics in accordance with the goals, mission and purpose statements of Black Rock Church.
  • Support the leadership team and contribute to the spirit of unity among all staff.
  • Manage all financial reporting, maintaining books and records, monitoring cash position, overseeing accounts payable, assist Executive Director in coordinating the annual budget process and ongoing budget reviews.
  • Assure compliance with all federal, state and local tax laws, arranging and facilitating audit work, and bank reconciliations.
  • Manage payroll operations, fixed asset records, and supervise accounting staff.
  • Support the Executive Director in engaging the Finance & Property committee around issues and trends in financial operating models.
  • Serve as a voting member of the Finance & Property Committee.
  • Oversee all financial, project/program accounting and ensure expenditures are consistently aligned with program budgets throughout the fiscal year.
  • Oversee all accounting functions including, but not limited to, payroll, purchasing, disbursements, receipts and reporting of all contributions.
  • Oversee all accounts, ledgers, and reporting systems, ensuring compliance with appropriate GAAP standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Be responsible for reviewing, analyzing, and maintaining all facets of property insurance, workers compensation insurance, health insurance, and other employee benefits.
  • Consistently analyze financial data and present financial reports in an accurate and timely manner, clearly communicate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
Educational Requirements:
  • BS in Accounting with a minimum of seven (7) years experience in financial reporting including
Familiarity with GAAP.
Functional Prerequisites required for the job:
  • Must have a proficient level of knowledge in all financial accounting functions, control and reporting
methods. Fund accounting experience is a plus.
Personal Characteristics required for the job:
  • Shall profess a personal faith in Jesus Christ, be in agreement with BRC’s Statement of Faith.
  • Must be flexible, a self-starter, and have the ability to multi-task.
  • Must demonstrate the ability to work in a collegial decision-making church environment.
  • Must have strong written and verbal communications skills.
