THE FIRST ANNUAL BRAIN FESTIVAL- BRAINFEST ® 2014- HELD ON MARCH 15 IN WINTER PARK, IS A FREE EVENT FOR THE WHOLE FAMILY

Hosted by the Alzheimer’s Association and sponsored by a grant from the Winter Park Health Foundation, this festival celebrates brain-healthy living for people of all ages. Speakers include Chris Nowinksi, former pro wrestler and a leading advocate for brain trauma in athletes, Dr. Ariel Cole of Florida Hospital, speaking on “Dementia Diagnosis and Treatment”, and Michael Dougherty of the Florida Hospital Sports Concussion Program who will discuss “Concussion Affects and Prevention”.

Winter Park, Florida – March 5, 2014 – As the world’s leading voluntary health organization in Alzheimer’s care, support and research, the Alzheimer’s Association is hosting a one-day, free festival of educational and inventive activities for the entire family. The event will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (rain or shine) at the Rachel D. Murrah Civic Center in Winter Park, Florida, and features presentations and interactive sessions focusing on brain-healthy living for all ages.

BrainFest ® also features keynote speaker, author and former pro wrestler, Chris Nowinksi – who is the founder of the Sports Legacy Institute, created to advance the study, treatment and prevention of the effects of brain trauma in athletes. Nowinski’s presentation is sponsored by Florida Hospital who will also provide expert speakers, Dr. Ariel Cole and Michael Dougherty to highlight the hospital’s Centre for Aging and Wellness and Sports Concussion Program.

Guests of BrainFest ® can participate in interactive games and challenges led by Bob Kodzis, master facilitator. It will be a fun day of brain-boosting, kid-friendly activities, yoga demonstrations, healthy cooking demonstrations, eating smart seminars, de-stressing seminars, meditation demonstrations and a big room of brain teasers and interactive brain games for everyone. The first 100 registrants receive a free book of brain boosters.
