BJAMS 2018 Ski Program – Student Information Sheet

We are excited about our 10th Annual BJAMS Ski Program at the Stowe Mountain Resort! Our program offers students and volunteer coaches (mostly parents) the chance to have a blast skiing and riding together at an amazing mountain – for a very reasonable cost! We’d like to emphasize the fun aspect – while we will offer designated groups based on ability, style and other factors, please keep in mind that this is not a ski school experience. Students naturally improve their skills by spending time on the hill and having fun in the process. Our coaches are dedicated to helping our students improve their skills while keeping it fun and safe. We hope that your child(ren) will join us for another fantastic year! Some notes about the program:

Who: All BJAMS students in Grades K-8 are eligible to participate. Please note that our ability to welcome first time skiers/beginners with very limited time on skis/riding chair lifts andsnowboarders will depend on how many volunteer coaches we have committed forthis skilllevel. All levels/snowboarders are encouraged to sign up, and we will contact you when we have further information.

When: (10) Sunday afternoons have been scheduled for the BJAMS program. We will meet on program Sundays from 12:45-4:00pm.

Drop Off:Studentswill meet dressed for skiing at 12:45pm at the base ofSprucePeak between the Sunny Spruce quad and the Meadows Lift. It is important that all skiers be prompt and totally ready to head to the lifts in fairness to coaches and others in the group; it is likely that your child will not be able to be placed in a group if he/she is late.

Pick Up: At 4:00pm, skiers may be picked up inside the Spruce Base Camp Lodge. It is mandatory that a parent/guardian connect with their child(ren)’s coach, or Erica Silveira when picking up to avoid any confusion.

Cost: Program cost for BJAMS students is $60.00 per student, including a StudentPass (note validity and restrictions below). The cost is the same for students who already have a pass at Stowe who wish to join the school program. Please return the completed registration form, signed season pass agreement form, and check made payable to the “BJAMS Ski Program”, no later than Friday, October 27th to Erica Silveira (1st grade) or Mrs. Kohl (school office). This year, we have a hard deadline to provide payment and a final list to the mountain much earlier, and late sign ups are not permitted. Thank you!

Student Passes – Important Information: As with all skiers on the mountain, our students must have an Evolution Stowe Card (ESC). If your child(ren) participated in previous years and still have their pass, please don’t forget to bring it as it will be activated for our first program date on January 7th; they can go straight to the lift! Any student who does not have an ESC because they are new to the program/skiing at Stowe, or because they have lost or misplaced their ESC, must purchase a card for $5.00 at the Season Pass Desk at any time prior to the program starting, or by including the $5.00 per child in your payment for the ski program (indicating on the form that you are purchasing the Stowe Evolution Card for your child). If your child(ren) lose their card, or forget to bring it on any given program Sunday, you may purchase a new one for $5.00 at the Season Pass Desk. The SEC is non-refundable, and may be used season after season.

StudentPass Validity:

We are very lucky to have this program as student passes are valid all day on our (10) designated program Sundays, Martin Luther King Jr. Day (Monday, January 15th), during our school February vacation week (Mon-Fri), scheduled BJAMS school closing dates, on declared school snow days that are not blacked out at the mountain, on Saturdays as of April, and April school break (if the resort is still operating). Please note that passes are NOT valid any other time. Passes are only available to students committed to participating in the school programon afternoons arranged with the Stowe Mountain Resort. Any student who signs up for the program and is issued a pass, but who does not actively participate in the Sunday program, is subject to having his/her pass revoked by the Stowe Mountain Resort. Student passes are valid starting on the first date of our program (Jan 8th). Please note that CoachPasses and Vouchers have different validity and restrictions.

Student passes are NOT valid on Saturdays in January, February and March, on school days, Martin Luther King Sunday (Jan 15), and during President’s Week at the mountain. Attempted use of the pass on days other than those defined above as valid will result in the loss of the pass for the remainder of the season. Please note that students must have their ski passes with them every Sunday. Stowe Mountain Resort will not be issuing any substitute passes and your child will be unable to participate unless a replacement pass is purchased for $5.00 at the Season’s Pass desk.

We ask that parents contact Erica in advance if your child(ren) are unable to attend on any of our program days. Please bear in mind that regular attendance is important, especially for beginners; students improve quickly and it can be challenging to accommodate those who miss multiple weeks when others are ready for more challenging terrain.

Equipment: Several area ski shops offer seasonal lease opportunities. Please let us know if you need resources.

Please feel free to contact the BJAMS Ski Program Coordinator with any questions or concerns: Erica Silveira at , 802-888-4758 x226 (at BJAMS) or 802-338-1401 (cell).

We are looking forward to a fantastic, safe season of skiing for all!

BJAMS 2017 Ski Program – Coach Information Sheet

Beginner Coaches/Snowboarding Coaches wanted!

We hope to accommodate snowboarders and first time/beginner skiers with limited experience, but will need sufficient commitments from coaches for this skill level. If you are interested, or have additional questions, please contact Erica Silveira ASAP at .

******************************************************************************

Thank you for expressing interest in being a BJAMS Ski Program Coach! Your time and commitment to our students should prove to be extremely rewarding and fun. We will have a more concrete idea of how many instructors (and possibly substitutes) will be needed this year, based on the number of students participating and the different levels of skiing/riding. Registration forms are due by Friday, Oct. 27. Please complete the information sheet, and we will contact you with more information ASAP!

Coaches - Information:

  • The time commitment for our coaches is from 12:30-4:15pm on Ski Program Sundays. We ask that all coaches be at the base (by the Easy Street/Alpine Double lifts) on time so that we can organize our groups/assess our needs, and prepare for the students' arrival by 12:45 p.m. Our goal is to be heading to the lifts right at 1:00pm this year for maximum enjoyment!
  • All coaches must attend a mandatory clinic at the Stowe Mountain Resort; dates, times, and costs are TBD. (Last season the cost for the clinic was $45 and the clinic ran from 7:30 to mid-afternoon.) In addition to the cost for the clinic, the only other cost to coaches for the program this winter would be $5.00 if you require an Evolution Stowe Card. Advance registration/payment to the StoweMountain Resort is required. Erica will provide full details after receiving commitments from our coaches.
  • This “Instructor Clinic” includes an on-snow session and an indoor session discussing safety, AAAs, Your Responsibility Code, Smart Style, pass validity, etc. Attendees must sign in at the beginning of the day and OUT at the end of the day.
  • All BJAMS coaches must have an Evolution Stowe Card (ESC), which will be activated for our program afternoons. Since the ESC does not expire, any returning instructor who still has his/hers from last year will not need to purchase another. Those who do not have an ESC may purchase one when registering for the Instructor Clinic.Instructor passes are valid ONLY for scheduled program afternoons from 12:00pm to closing; they are NOT valid at any other time. Coaches can expect to receive one voucher for every two afternoons of volunteering; restrictions will be clearly noted on the vouchers (e.g., vouchers are not valid on Saturdays during regular season and during blackout periods). With the new ownership, changes may be coming regarding the receipt and use of vouchers. You will receive information on this as soon as it is finalized. A review of these voucher restrictions will also be provided during the clinic.
  • Please fill out and return the attached Instructor Information Sheet and return it to Erica Silveira in the 1st grade classroom, or the school office by no later than Friday, Oct. 27.

Please feel free to contact Erica Silveira at with any questions about volunteering to coach.

We are looking forward to a fantastic, safe ski season for all!
