Post Title:Shift Leader

Service:As directed within Care Services

Terms:Equivalent to NJC points16– 19(£17,419-£18,746)

Holiday Entitlement: 22 days (plus8 public holidays)

Report To:Registered Manager

Overall Purpose of Job

To lead a team of Support Workers including planning, managing and debriefing shifts

To ensure the welfare of children and young people and young adults is protected and promoted

To work within relevant legislation and organisational policies, whilst creating safe, positive, nurturing placements for children and young people and safe enabling environments for young adults

To provide a responsive service using appropriate methods of assessment and intervention within relevant statutory and company requirements

To fulfil all the duties required of a care support worker in the service in which you are a shift leader

Main duties

  1. To ensure all relevant tasks are completed appropriately within each designated shift.
  1. To ensure risk assessment and health and safety policies and procedures are followed by staff on your shift
  1. To meet the needs of children and young people and contribute to the protection of children and young people from abuse
  1. To ensure staff on your shift have read and are working within the care placement plan and behaviour management plan for each child/young person./ young adult
  1. To ensure that all staff record information appropriately and accurately as required on your shift including young peoples` records, medication and log books.
  1. To complete all the duties required of a support worker in the service in which you are a shift leader

Partnership Working

  1. Contribute to the development and maintenance of joint working between workers, carers, children and young people and their families
  1. Contribute to the development and maintenance of joint working between partner agencies to the benefit of the child/young person and their family

Staff Development

  1. Attend Staff Meetings
  1. Actively participate in supervision and appraisal
  1. Participate in training and staff development opportunities
  1. Develop own knowledge and practice

General

  1. To carry out statutory objectives in line with relevant legislation
  1. To comply with the organisation’s administrative and financial procedures
  1. Maintain accurate, well-kept and up-to-date records
  1. Fully utilise IT facilities and modern technology
  1. Promote Health and Safety at work
  1. Promote people’s equality, diversity and rights

Health and Safety

All staff must operate safely within the workplace with regard to Health and Safety legislation.

Confidentiality

All staff must adhere to national and organisational policies and procedures in relation to confidentiality and the management and sharing of information.

Limits of Authority

Within the framework of the organisations policies and instructions, and subject to the overriding authority of his/her line manager, the member of staff holding this post is authorised to undertake all duties appertaining to the areas of work outlined above, and in line with the General Social Care Council’s Code of Practice/Conduct

Commitment to work flexibly to meet the needs of the service including weekend and possibly public holiday working. There may be a need to work overtime from time-to-time / E / A + I
