Chemistry in the Community

Extra Credit Semester 1

Anyone may complete the following choices for extra credit ONLY IF the following applies by Friday, November 20th. You may attempt a total of 31 points if you have no zeros. If you have 1 missing assignment you may do up to 20 points and 2 missing assignments up to 10 points. If you have more than 2 missing assignments you are not eligible. The extra credit is due no later than December 18th.

1)  Create a crossword puzzle for one of the units covered in the final. Using 10 words is (5 points) and 20 words is (10 points).

2)  Read the Flyer found on Page 586. For any of the 14 statements determine if the statement is true by conducting research and then writing the information you discovered. If the statement is not true, then rewrite the statement. Make sure the science you present as to why or why not the statement is true is in your own words. Each one should take about ¼ of a page and include a picture or diagram. You may complete up to 5 statements max for 3 points each. (15 points)

3)  Complete the following for one of the listed sections:

a)  A typed overview of the entire section (one page min.) (10 points)

b)  Five of: Chem Quandary (CQ) / Developing Skills (DS) /

6C- Using Radioactivity (P. 638-657)

6D- Nuclear Energy: Benefits and Burdens (P. 658-681)

4)  Design up to 3 trading cards for elements. Each card (front and back) must contain the following information: name (English and/or other language), chemical symbol, atomic number, atomic mass, classification, melting point, boiling point, number of neutrons, number of protons, number of electrons, crystal structure, density, color, date of discovery, discoverer, name origin, uses, and where it is obtained from. Each card is worth (8 points) and the grade will be based on listing all requirements above (3 points) and the creativity (5 points)
