BIOL 303, Section 001, Fall 2005, Dr. A. Waldman
Grading Policy
In accord with University policy, attendance is mandatory.
There will be a total of four exams -- three regular exams and one final exam. Each exam will consist of 40 multiple choice questions. All questions are worth 2.5 points, so the maximum score on each exam is 100 points. The final exam is cumulative, but counts no more than each of the other three regular exams.
There will also be several pop-quizzes and homework assignments.
There will be no make-up exams except for legitimate, documented emergencies. All make-up exams, which will be essay format, will be given on Reading Day (12/3/05).
Your grade will be based on the total number of points scored on all exams plus points earned on pop-quizzes and homework assignments. This total is then divided by 4, and the result is used to determine your grade, as shown below. For example, if you scored 78 on all four exams, and received a total of 20 points on quizzes & homework, your total points earned would be 78 X 4 = 312, plus the 20 points makes 332 pts. Dividing by 4 we get 332/4 = 83 which, as shown below, would be a final grade of B.
ASSIGNMENT OF GRADES
Average score on four exams, plus quizzes Final Grade:
and homework (calculated by summing the
number of points earned on all exams plus
quizzes plus homework and dividing the
total by four):……………………………
³90 …………………………………………………………A
85-89…………………………………………………………...B+
80-85…………………………………………………………...B
75-79…………………………………………………………...C+
~70-74*………………………………………………………...C
<70*…………………………………………………………….D+ and below
*The precise cut-off between a C and a D+ as well as score intervals used for assigning grades of D+, D, or F are determined based on overall class performance and vary slightly from year-to-year.
NOTE—averages are truncated, not rounded-off, so if your final overall average is 89.6 this would be treated as an 89.
