Watershed Management Framework

Ted gave a presentation on the Kentucky Watershed Management Framework.

Monitoring Plan

Described the monitoring process and how this monitoring is reported and the significance of the reports (305b, 303d, TMDL). Tom Vierheller presented data on stream monitoring and areas of concern. The Team expressed the need to be represented within the Interagency Monitoring Work Group. It was discussed at some length and decided that the Basin Coordinator should represent the team. The team also requested the ambient water quality data to use as a guide for future monitoring efforts and to compare with data that has been collected by Watershed Watch teams. Team members expressed concern that all data from Virginia and West Virginia be used also, so as to give a true picture of the entire watershed not just Kentucky’s half of the watershed.

Basin Status Report

Ted asked the Team to look over the previous Basin Status Reports in their packets. Discussion of unique issues in the Basin mainly the large role resource extraction plays in the area. Dave Gardner stated he would help with the resource extraction maps and asked if DOW could supply the GIS data needed. The team wants to include a map of what needs to be done in the Basin i.e. Monitoring of streams not assesed in past. Also that all future maps of the Basin are inclusive of the entire basin not just Kentucky. The team also requested that a map of the volunteer efforts by Watershed Watch and PRIDE be included. Team member requested a new heading be included mining and its impact. Team members selected areas of interest as their contribution to the Basin Status report. Due date for editable copies set for Sept 28, 2001.
