PURPOSE OF THE POST

To develop and deliver a specific Visiting Service to meet the needs of veterans and RBL beneficiaries.To manage and support a team of dedicated volunteers for this service.

KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Volunteers:

  1. Recruit, induct and retain a team ofvolunteers in line with the Age UK Notts Volunteering and Safeguarding Policy;
  2. To assist the volunteering strategy lead with the wider volunteering needs and systems of the charity.
  3. Support volunteers with regular group and individual meetings, and ongoing telephone support where required.
  4. To identify and arrange relevant training for volunteers.

Service users:

  1. To be responsible for processing referrals to the service in a timely and effective manner.
  2. Ensure people are appropriately assessed for the service based on need and criteria.
  3. Signpost people to other relevant services and organisations.
  4. Ensure service users and volunteer matches are compatible and are carried out within a person centred process.
  5. To take appropriate action to ensure service users are supported during volunteer absence.
  6. To carry out Safeguarding checks and alert any safeguarding issues to a Reporting Officer as per the Age UK Notts procedures.

Partnership Working:

  1. To promote wider understanding of the needs of veterans and RBL beneficiaries through marketplace events and other marketing and promotional messages

Service Promotion:

  1. Using suitable material, promote the service by giving presentations and distributing information.

Monitoring and Evaluation:

  1. Provide accurate qualitative and quantitive monitoring in line with the requirements of the funding providers.
  2. Evaluate service by obtaining feedback from service users, volunteers, community groups and organisations and referring agencies.

Administration:

  1. Develop appropriate administration systems.
  2. Ensure all standard forms for the service are completed and are in line with Data Protection requirements.
  3. Keep appropriate file notes for service users and volunteers and ensure these meet quality requirements.

Meetings:

  1. To occasionally attend meetings and/or functions outside of your normal working hours as required.
  2. To attend staff meetings, the annual staff conference and other internal and external meetings as requested by your line manager.

Your Needs

  • You will keep under review your own developmental needs, keep yourself informed of current issues and be alert to the Age UK Notts training programmes and policies and attend all supervision meetings advised by your line manager. It is your responsibility along with your line manager to identify training and development needs and to inform your line manager of these.

  • You will exercise proper care in handling, operating and safeguarding any equipment or appliance provided, used or issued by Age UK Notts or provided by a third party for individual or collective use in the performance of your duties.

  • You will raise any concerns regarding safeguarding and report all allegations of abuse in line with the Age UK Notts Safeguarding policy.

Customer Care

  • You will promote and deliver services in a way which is sensitive and responsive to those receiving such services and be aware of and implement the Age UK Notts customer care policies and service level agreement requirements (if applicable).

Professional Integrity

  • You will maintain at all times the professional integrity of the Charity and represent its main interests in any dealings with other bodies, groups and individuals.

Quality Assurance

  • You will uphold and proactively contribute to the Age UK Notts Quality Assurance framework including ISO 9001 and ISO 14001

Other

  • participate in, and promote fundraising & income generation
  • promote all Age UK Notts services and trading products
  • You will attend staff meetings, the annual staff conference and other meetings as requested in order to keep up to date with information within the Charity
  • You will provide for your line manager, weekly diary sheets and any other reports or information as required.
  • You will carry out any other specified tasks that may be reasonably required by the relevant Manager, with the proviso that any changes of a permanent nature will be included in the job description.

Essential Requirements

  1. Excellent interpersonal skills with a friendly and sensitive approach to older people.
  2. To have an awareness of the issues and practical difficulties affecting older veterans and beneficiaries living in the community.
  3. Ability to visit and assess clients in their own homes.
  4. Good communication skills, planning and time management skills.
  5. Experience of working effectively and in a complementary way with a wide range of organisations.
  6. Ability to keep accurate computer based records (MS Office) and produce clear and concise written reports and figures.
  7. An understanding of the needs of volunteers and the issues surrounding volunteering
  8. Ability to recruit, train, support and motivate volunteers.
  9. Ability to effectively plan and organise your workload, using your own initiative to ensure a reliable service delivery is achieved and that deadlines are met.
  10. Ability to work as a member of a team.
  11. Ability to work dynamically and achieve results in a busy environment.
  12. To have knowledge and understanding of Equality and Diversity issues and a commitment to implement that Age UK Notts Equality and Diversity policy.
  13. To have access to adequate transport arrangements.

Desirable Requirements

  1. Experience of recruiting and working with volunteers in a positive and constructive manner.
  2. Previous experience of working with older people.

Salary: £15,112 per annum (AUNN points 20-23, £18.638 - £20,400 per annum FTE)

Start Date:January 2016, fixed term until December 31st 2016

Hours of Work:30 hours within Monday to Thursday 9.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m. and 9.00 a.m. to 4.30 p.m. Friday with a min. 1/2hour for lunchwhich is unpaid.Age UK Notts operates a scheme of flexible working hours.

Holidays:24 working days (pro rated for part time hours). Employees are granted 8 Public Holidays.One additional days leave is added to the annual leave entitlement for each year of service up to a maximum of 8 additional days.

Mileage

Allowance: Currently 45p per mile.

Pension:The Charity will contribute 8% of salary to your own personal pension after completion of a satisfactory six month probationary period.

Place of Work:Bradbury House, Nottingham City Centre but required to be mobile to meet the needs of volunteers and veterans/beneficiaries
