Big Question Assignment #1: Due next class

You should come to class with the following:

1.)An identified “Big Question” that you will study through literature and outside “artifacts” throughout the year.

2.)A book by an American author that you have chosen to read independently outside of class by the end of the second quarter. This book should in some way inform your “big question”. Use the Portfolio Connection Organizer as your guide for how the novel should inform your question. **You don’t have to literally bring the book to class, but you should know the title, author and exactly how it relates to your big question.

3.)An outside artifact that relates directly to your theme. This artifact could be any of the following: a poem, an article (from a newspaper, magazine or blog), a clip from a television show or movie), personal writing on the subject, an interview with another person, song lyrics, a photograph, or a work of art, etc. Use the Portfolio Connection Organizer as your guide for how the artifact should inform your question. Bring a copy of this artifact to class with you.
