SPANISH 1

Students,

¡Bienvenidos a español! This email is for students taking to Spanish 1, if you are taking a different Spanish course, email me.

I am looking forward to meeting each of you at orientation. It is extremely important you and your parents be present at orientation at either campus. It would be best for you to come to the campus where you will be attending class, but that is not required. If you are in the online class, come to either campus.

In the meantime, I need you to start getting ready for next year. Please go to Edpuzzle.com and join my class. Here are the instructions for joining: Creating an EDpuzzle Account &Registering for an EDpuzzle Class

1) Go to and select “I’m a new student”

2) Insert your First Name and Last Name. Then in the space for Username you must use your first and last nameand pick a password that you will remember! Email will be optional. Then, click “Sign Up”

3) After registering, click on the “Join Class” button at the upper right corner.

4) Insert ukhekjias your class code and click the search icon. Once your class title appears, click on “Join”!

Once you are signed up for the class in EDpuzzle then you can set up your email and online textbook for the coming school year. First read over this entire email once to familiarize yourself with it, then go to Edpuzzle[1] and listen to the two-summer work videos. They will walk you through steps 1-13 and a-i one step at a time. Please don’t let this scare you, once you are set up it will be easy[2]. You have until August 11 to get this done. Take your time, but don’t wait till the last day.

  1. Set up an email just for this class. It can be something like “, or . It doesn’t matter, you decide what to call it and where to set it up. The only thing to watch out for is that this address cannot be a yahoo address. Make sure your parent knows you are doing this and then make sure you give them the the email address and password.
  2. Now go to:
  3. Select EMC Español 1
  4. Click on the neon yellow book icon (it is in a circle immediately under “e” in the title ¡Aventura!).
  5. When prompted enter password:czadegi (case sensitive)
  6. You will see the cover of the Aventura 1 book.
  7. In the space for “Instructor’s email”— type in two addresses separated by a comma. The first address will be your class email address[3] and the second email will be an email address you set up especially for Spanish. Don’t forget to separate these two addresses by a comma.
  8. In the space for “Your email”—type your personal email address---not the one you have set up for Spanish. IF you do not have an email address then just use your parent’s address. This email, will be the same one that your parents need to make sure they have entered under student email on the PREP website.
  9. In the space for “Your name”—type your first AND last name. No nick names. No abbreviations.
  10. Hit the “SAVE” button.
  11. Look for the left/right arrows to open the book. Next to the left arrow there is the number 468. Next to that number there is a box with the word “cover”. Type the number 2 in that box.
  12. Page 2 will have the alphabet. You can listen to pronunciation of letter by clicking on “El alfabeto” or each individual letter.
  13. Go to Page 8 for numbers 1-20.

This year you will be doing some homework that I call “online homework”. I need you to do a practice exercise 26 on page 14. If you followed the above instructions correctly I will receive your completed exercise and so will you (at your Spanish email address). Go to your online textbook, then open it to Page 14 Exercise 26. You are supposed to guess the job each person does. I don’t care if you get these right or wrong I just want you to do the exercise. Here are the exercise 26 instructions:

  1. Click on the sheet of paper with a pencil. You will see a box pop up with spaces to type your answers.
  2. When you finish answering, click on the check “answers” button. Again, I am not worried about how many you answered correctly or incorrectly.
  3. Now look for the “Print” and “Send” buttons. Hit the “Send” button.
  4. If you set up the information on the cover of the book correctly, you will receive a copy of that exercise in your Spanish email.
  5. Check your Spanish email, if you don’t get a copy within 2 minutes then go back to redo steps 7-9. If you do get a copy skip step “f” and go to step “g” below.
  6. Redo exercise 26 on page 14. IF you still do not get a copy of this exercise in your email, call me and I will walk you through the steps.
  7. IF you get the copy of the exercise, ask your mom or dad (preferably the parent that will be monitoring your homework for this class) to go to your Spanish email (remember they should have that address and password). They too should see your exercise 14.
  8. After your parent sees (not just takes your word—sorry) your completed Ex. 14, they need to then send me an email to to tell me they saw the exercise on your Spanish email. The email should state: I am “your name” parent he/she is in your Spanish 1 class at the ______campus and I have seen exercise 26 in his/her Spanish email.
  9. I need to get this email no later than August 12. It is your responsibility to make sure your parent sends this email. I know they are busy and may need some reminders. On the first day of class I will have a list of students whose parent sent in the email. These students will earn points for the first of many extra credit opportunities.

I will be assigning another video the first week in August. Again, don’t worry I just want to get the year set up before English, Math and Science get started. If you want to get ahead, you can start with memory work. Before you come to class, you need to already know the Spanish alphabet, and know how to count by ones from zero to 20. To clarify about memorizing alphabet and numbers: you need to know how to say the alphabet. You need to know the letters in and out of order. If I say a letter you will know which one I am saying or if I spell a word (yes in Spanish) you will be able to write the letters I am saying. You need to know the numbers by hearing them and by reading them. If I call out a phone number using single numbers or if I give you of list of numbers spelled out, you will be able to write the numerals.

Optional work for those of you who are bored. Ha-ha!:

1.If you want to learn your numbers to 100 by 10’s go to Page 25.

2.You can also go to page 17. That is the list of all vocabulary you need to know for your first vocabulary test. Find the definitions here:

  1. At the end of the chapter on page 37 (only the words with 1A).
  2. The back of the book.
  3. In the online book, you can use the glossary. Look all the way on the left of the icon ribbon-to the right of “Aventura 1” there is a red book, click on it and then on the glossary tab.

Call me @ 281 222 6312 (text is best) or email me with any questions you have.

Gracias,

Sra. Cooper[4]

[1]When you go to EdPuzzle to watch the summer work videos, you might notice the letter is a little different. Don’t worry about it, the steps are the same.

[2]Easy --so long as you work on the same computer. Keep these notes so that if you change computers you will be able to set that one up too.
