BEYOND BASIC ALOHA SHIRT

CLASS PREPARATION INFORMATION

FOR QUILTING ON THE BEACH 2015

Instuctor: Susan Distel - cell# 808-896-9061

We will be using the Hawaiian Heritage/Victoria Jones #220 that is provided in your kit. The following pieces will be used:

___Front - with front facing attached ___Back___Yoke

___collar - this will be altered in class ___sleeve___pocket

If your pattern needs to be altered (other than lengthening or shortening) please contact Susan at least three days prior to class so we can meet to make the adjustments. Class will be fast paced in order to complete the shirt in the allotted time. See Supply List for other items to be used in class.

HOW TO DETERMINE FABRIC NEEDED: Using the pattern measurement chart on the back of the pattern envelope, determine the amount off fabric for your size shirt and then add 2 yards extra fabric to allow for matching. Matching takes extra fabric – you don't want to run out. Larger prints require more fabric. If you don't use it all – more for your stash!

PRESHRINK FABRIC: As QOTB participants may be staying in hotels without convenient laundry services, Susan has volunteered to wash and preshrink your fabric prior to class. Please select your Hawaiian fabric at Quilt Passions a minimum of three days prior to the scheduled class. If you are needing Susan to preshrink your fabric, call Susan and she will pick it up from Quilt Passions and return it the next day. You will need to take time to iron your fabric. This makes laying out the pattern pieces much easier and you will notice any poorly printed areas of the fabric you may want to avoid when cutting out the pattern. I usually mark these spots with bits of masking tape or pins. Hang your fabric on the bar of a hanger and secure with a pin.

PATTERN PREPARATION: Take your pattern out of the envelope and separate (cut out) the above listed pattern pieces. Press them flat with a dry iron and hang them over the bar of a hanger. Secure with a pin. Flat pattern pieces are much easier to work with than a crumpled mess. This saves time in class and gets you to the sewing machine faster.

See you in class – Aloha - Susan
