Berner & Mattner Releases CTE XL Professional Version 3.1:

Automated test sequence generation

Munich, November 22, 2012 – Berner & Mattner, specializingin systems engineering, development and testing of high-performance electronic and mechanical systems, presents the new version 3.1 of the Classification Tree Editor CTE XL Professional. The option to automatically generate test sequences is the innovationof the leading tool for the systematic identification of test cases. In addition, numerical dependency rules can be defined for tests andtest results can be evaluated.

Berner & Mattner has extended its CTE (Classification Tree Editor) XL Professional to include the automatic generation of test sequences. These can now be generated by defined coverage criteria such as state coverage and transition coverage. Prior to this, start state and allowed state transitions are defined for each classification. CTE XL Professional then generates a test suite containingtest sequences with test steps, so that only valid transitions between the individual steps are selected. This means that in successive test steps only these classes are selected that show defined and allowed transitions between oneanother. CTE XL Professional thus allows the systematic testing of stateful systems, as they are widely used not only in the embedded area.

Evaluation of test results

The classification tree method supports equivalence classes and boundarytesting. CTE XL Professional is particularly popular because of its greater clarity during test case definition in order to support test engineers during test result evaluation. The possibility to statistically query positive and negative test results and to show defect accumulations directly in the classification tree editor helps detect anomalies at a glance.

The definition of dependency rules has already been a central function of CTE XL Professional. Now, dependency rules with numerical operations are possible as well. This is particularly interesting when plausibility of test case definitions can be verified mathematically. Setting up dependency rules leads to distinct test case reduction. The new version now indicates violated rules. The relationships can be identified retrospectively by clicking only on the respective test case.

Optimized interfaces

Version 3.1 offers a new command line interface that allows controllingthe file-based functions of CTE XL Professional. In this way, standard tasks can be automated by command line calls. As Berner & Mattner understands its software solutions as part of tool chains, the interface to HP Quality Center has additionally been adapted. CTE XL Professional can be used in combination with HP Quality Center, including version 11.

Moreover, the interface design has been modernized. The program now uses the FLEXlmlicense mechanism to further facilitate the configuration of the software. As of now, CTE XL Professional version 3.1 is available in the web shop of Berner & Mattner:
