Berks Legion all-stars

The 2009 All-Berks Legion team, as selected by the league's coaches (stats are regular season league numbers unless otherwise noted):
Cody Albright, TwinValley
Albright, a senior-to-be at Berks Christian, went 3-1 while leading the league with a 1.45 ERA. He also hit .296 for the Raiders, who won the regular season league title in just their second season as a program.
Joe Blanchard, Exeter
One of just two repeat picks on this year's all-star squad, the 18-year-old second baseman led the league with a .634 average and seven homers. The High Point grad also finished second in runs (25), hits (26) and RBIs (23).
Evan Gombos, West Lawn
The Owls ace, Gombos went 5-1 with a 3.85 ERA, and also led the league with four triples. The 18-year-old, whose five wins were tied with two others for the league lead, had a win and a save in the Berks playoffs to help West Lawn reach the league final.
Jordan Gottshall, Exeter
The Blue Jays ace, the 18-year-old Gottshall went 4-1 with a 3.46 ERA and 41 strikeouts in 361/3 innings to help Exeter finish fourth in the regular season race and reach Day 4 of the league tournament.
Ethan Moser, Boyertown
A 19-year-old sophomore-to-be at DeSales, hit .453 with 19 RBIs and went 2-0 with a 4.29 ERA to help the Bears win their 30th league title. A first baseman-pitcher, "Mo" was especially dangerous in the postseason, when he hit .400 with 11 homers and 36 RBIs, went 4-1 in eight pitching appearances, and earned Pennsylvania State Tournament MVP honors.
Steve Motika, Kutztown
Motika, a 19-year-old catcher and a sophomore-to-be at Elizabethtown, hit .483 with 23 RBIs to help the Cougars finish second in the regular season race.
Jonah Pulford, West Lawn
A 17-year-old outfielder, Pulford finished third in the league with a .536 average. Overall, he was hitting .416 with 29 RBIs entering the league playoffs, when he was 7-for-21 with 8 RBIs.
Frankelvin Reyes, Gregg Post
The Keys ace, the 18-year-old Reyes went 1-2 with a 3.75 ERA and a league-best 42 strikeouts. Reyes, who also played shortstop, had five doubles and two homers.

Nate Schnell, Boyertown
Schnell, a 19-year-old pitcher entering his sophomore season at Ursinus, went 5-1 with a 3.24 ERA and 35 strikeouts in a league-high 50 innings for the Bears.
Seth Shultz, Conrad Weiser
The other repeat selection, Shultz, a 19-year-old catcher, homered in each of Weiser's four Berks playoff games and had nine RBIs to help the No. 8 seeds reach the winners bracket final and Day 4 of the tournament.
Derek Slichter, Hamburg
An 18-year-old infielder, Slichter was a bright spot for the Reds. He finished fourth in the league with a .488 average and was third with five homers.
Brad Smith, Twin Valley
An outfielder-pitcher and a senior-to-be at Twin Valley, Smith led the league in hits (33), doubles (13) and runs (28), and was second in average (.559) and triples (three).
Kyle Stoudt, Topton
Stoudt, a 17-year-old infielder, finished among the league leaders with four home runs and 26 hits for the Rams.
Brandon Sullivan, Boyertown
A 19-year-old shortstop and a sophomore-to-be at Ursinus, Sullivan hit .340 with 27 runs and 21 RBIs in the postseason and was Boyertown's defensive leader as the Bears earned their fourth straight national regional appearance.
Mike Weinhold, Conrad Weiser
The 17-year-old Weinhold, Weiser's ace, threw 12 scoreless innings with 18 strikeouts in the Berks playoffs to help the Scouts reach Day 4 of the tournament. He went 3-1 with a 2.81 ERA and 36 strikeouts during the regular season.
Caleb Wessner, Kutztown
Wessner, a 17-year-old pitcher-infielder, went 5-2 with a 2.13 ERA and 30 strikeouts for the Cougars. His five wins tied Schnell and Gombos for the league high.
