3rd Grade Newsletter

Week of September 26-30

Dear Parents,

What a fabulous week in third grade. We attended a fire prevention assembly. It was so much fun while we learned how to be safe. Thank you parents for helping your child complete his/her first week of homework. I know the TTM technology caused some frustrations on some home computers, but thank you for working with us. We couldn’t do it without you. Remember students are dismissed at 12:00 the week of October 3 for Parent Conferences.

Below you will find some of the key areas we will be focusing on this week.

Math: We are continuing to dig deeper in place value and clear up any additional misunderstandings. We are also beginning to study how to solve problems using addition and subtraction.

Reading/Writing: We will begin transitioning from retelling to summarization. The ability to summarize a story is a huge learning target in grade 3. In fictional text, we will use strategies like Somebody Wanted But So Then, Beginning/Middle/End (BME), and 5W’s and an E (Who, Did What? When?, Where? Why? How did it End?).

Science: We will complete our report card assessment in science on designing, conducting and drawing conclusions in an investigation.

Social Studies: We are completing our unit on important historical documents. 
