Your task for this homework is to recount events in the history of computers. In total this project should take around 1 ½ to 2 hours across the half term. It is up to you how you organise this – it can be a bit each week or all in one go.

You need to bring a handwritten first draft to your lesson on the due date. It should be no more than 2 sides of A4. We will then edit it in class and type up a final copy as part of our ethic of excellence literacy scheme. It must be completely in your own words (no cutting and pasting!).

The project:

Below is a choice of tasks of differing difficulty. You only have to complete one of the tasks.

Developing/Secure task:Research and write a biography of one key person in the history of computing (e.g. Ada Lovelace, Tim Berners-Lee, Steve Jobs – but you can find your own).

Secure+/Exceeding task: Pick 5 people that you think we’re the most significant in the development of computing. Research them and give a short biography of what each did. Justify why you think their work was significant. Give an overall concluding paragraph about which one you think was the most important.

Success Criteria:Your final piece of work will be marked against the following. Refer to this as your write your draft. Remember we are looking for excellent literacy skills and the information you include about your key computing person. You should be transferring across all your skills from your English lessons.
