BELLARINE and GEELONG NORTH DIVISION

TRACK and FIELD CHAMPIONSHIPS

John Landy Field

13th September 2016

The Geelong North and Bellarine Division Coordinator wishes to thank everyone who has helped at the School and District events and everyone concerned with submitting the entries, running today’s program and supervising the students.

In recent years, schools have often found it difficult to provide enough officials to conduct the events at the level expected by parents and SSV. We are also very aware that the costs of staging Athletic Carnivals like today have steadily increased. To overcome both of these problems, the District Coordinators of both Divisions agreed to hold a combined Bellarine and Geelong North Divisions Track and Field carnival. Today will be a very big event as it is expected that there will be over 1800 competitors competing in the 184 events.

The Field events and the 1500 metres events will be run as a combined event, but places will be assigned for both Divisions. The remaining track events will be run as separate Division events. There will be two heats in each of the Hurdles, 100 metres and 200 metres events and the students who finish in the four (4) placings in each heat will advance to the final. Each heat has three competitors who finished 1st at their District event, three competitors who finished 2nd at their District event and two competitors who finished 3rd at their District event.

A student can compete in no more than two (2) individual events andone (1) relay event.

Girls may run in a Boys/Mixed relay team but the reverse is not permissible.

From each Division, the first two placegetters in all the individual events and the first placed relay team will advance to the Western Metropolitan Region Track and Field Championships that will be held at the Keilor Athletics Centre on Tuesday 11th October 2016. Students who qualify will be given an information sheet during the presentation ceremony for their event.

As no invitations to compete at the Region event will be given after today unless there are exceptional circumstances, it is important that athletes who qualify and know they will not be able to attend the Region carnival notify the teachers at the Presentation area within 10 minutes of the conclusion of the presentation ceremony so the replacement can receive his/her information sheet. This does not apply to individuals in a relay team as schools have the option, providing SSV guidelines are met, to change the composition of their relay teams.

The selection of the “Team Vic” (State) Track and Field team is based on the performances of athletes at the State Championships (Monday 24th October).

Nobody permitted to enter the arena (as defined by the fences around the outer edges of the track) unless they are moving to an event or officiating at the time. The only exception will be the adult supporting a child participating in a Multiclass event.

All photographs must be taken from outside the boundary fence. Following SSV guidelines, photographs or videos must be taken from outside the track’s boundary fences. If you do not wish your child to be photographed during a Presentation Ceremony, the Event Manager must be notified in writing prior to the occasion. As SSV officials cannot control the taking of photographs of students while competing, we request that, as a matter of respecting the privacy of others, that the taking of photographs/videos be restricted to students who are directly known by you.

The schools in the Bellarine and Geelong North Divisions are listed on the back page of the program.
