Beginner Maple Production Workshop

Are you interested in tapping maple trees in the backyard or getting started in small-scale commercial maple syrup production? Cornell Cooperative Extension of Seneca County is offering a Beginner Maple Production Workshop on Tuesday evening, January 14, 2014 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. The workshop will be held at the Seneca County Cornell Cooperative Extension Office, 305 Main Street Shop Center,Waterloo, NY.

* For driving directions to parking lot, please use 14 E. Williams St., Waterloo, NY. The first driveway past the McClintock House leads you to the parking lot for the building. The office is on the 3rd floor of the Main Street Shop Centre.

Mr. Stephen Childs, New York State Extension Specialist in the Department of Natural Resources at Cornell University; will be the presenter. The workshop will cover a variety of aspects of maple syrup production including: why make maple syrup, tree identification, tree health, tapping, sap collection and handling, boiling, energy efficiency, finishing and grading syrup, canning, marketing and regulations. This workshop is aimed at the small or beginning maple producer and would be useful to the homeowner looking to tap a few trees in the backyard or someone wanting to start small-scale commercial maple production.
