Activity layout.

Beforehand: Students divide into 2 teams to develop team spirit.

1.National anthem.Listen to 3 national anthems and decide which is the anthem of Great Britain “God Save the Queen”.(They hear British\American\Welsh anthems)

2. Flags.Listen to the teacher.Color the flag and match it with the name of the country.The students get the handout (see below) but in black and white.They listen to flags descriptions (read below),match and colour.Teacher: the flag of England has a red cross in the white background;the flag of Scotland has a white diagonal cross in the blue background;the flag of Wales has a white and a green stripe and a red dragon in the front;a flag of Northern Ireland has a red diagonal cross in the white background.Students colour the UK flag by memory.(Slide 2,3)

3.Flower symbols.Look at the screen and say which symbol belongs to which country.Students write the answers on the answer-sheets.(see below)

4.Odd one out. Look at the other symbols and say which aren’t British symbols.Students cross out the numbers of photos they think aren’t British in their answer-sheets.(2,5,7)

5. Holidays.Guess the holiday.Teacher reads holiday descriptions,students guess and write the name of the holidays in their answer-sheets.

Teacher: This holiday is celebrated on the 17-th of April.People wear green and shamrock flowers.-St Patrick’s day

This holiday is on the 2-nd Sunday in May,people give their mothers presents and help them harder than ever.-Mother’s Day

This holiday is on the 5-th of November.People make a doll,fill it with straw and burn it.There are lots of fireworks as well. Bonfire Night\Guy Fawkes night.

This holiday is in the end of March.People go to church and take part in Egg Hunt.Easter.

6. I bet you know British monarchy well.Continue the sentences and answer the questions. To make the game fair,students write down the answers in the answer-sheets and then name call them out.

7. London. Guess London sights. Students see some very familiar sights and write their names next to the numbers.When they call them out,it’s essential that they pronounce them correctly.

Who of these celebrities aren’t British ? Students cross out the numbers of photos they think aren’t British in their answer-sheets.( 2,4,5,7).If they guess it right and also name the celebrity correctly ,they get two awards.(Slide 9)
