Become a Star Educator

If you do not have a Discovery Education username and password follow steps 1-2 below.
If you do have a username and password skip to step 3.

Step 1. Enter your eight-digit passcode from above in the Passcode Login section


Step 2. Once you have accessed the passcode area, scroll down to the area for New Users and fill it out completely.The New User Area looks like this:

NOTE:Do not sign up for a free 30 day trial of United Streaming.
- Fill out EVERTHING…. Don’t leave blanks

-To save you time down the road, near the bottom of the registration screen, leave the box for the Discovery Educator Networkchecked

Step 3. Applying for STAR membership

Benefits:
STAR Educators receive a Welcome Kit upon completion
STAR Educators can order up to 4 Training Toolboxes per year
STAR Educatorscan attend local, regional and national events
STAR Educators can upload and download resources from the Discovery Streaming website
STAR Educators can also manage their own Discovery blog

You will do all of the following:

  • Complete the STAR application
  • Answer 3 Guiding Questions
  • View Video About Discovery STAR Educators
  • Take Short (EASY) Quiz on Video
  • Log an Event

1.Log into Discovery United Streaming if you are not logged in.

2. Click on the Discovery Educator Network Link located at the top and the right side of the screen (see below).

3. Once there,click onthe Become a STAR Discovery Educator graphic.

It will lead you to this URL:

4. When you are ready, click the APPLY NOW link in the graphic toward the lower right side of the screen.
The graphic looks like this:

NOTE: You may be prompted to complete your profile if you left anything out; you may use your school information.

5. The application contains 2 pages.

PAGEONE:Record your answers to three short-answer type questions.
They are given below in order for you to be better prepared toformulate your responses.

  • Question 1: “What do you see as the major benefits of integrating technology into instruction?”
  • You are free to supply any appropriate answer to this question. Some of your peers have suggested
    that student engagement is a big benefit. Others talk about how technology, especially the Internet,
    affords students an open door to vast libraries of educational materials.
    Still others mention the collaborative nature of modern classroom technology solutions.
  • Question 2: “How do you currently share new experiences, knowledge and skills with your colleagues?”
  • Some ideas relate to team meetings, small learning communities, faculty meetings, lunch time table-talk,
    blogs, web sites, etc…
  • Question 3:“Why do you want to become a STAR Discovery Educator?”
  • For this response,you can referto the stated benefits providedhere as well as your own thoughts.
  • Unlimited access to resources such as lesson plans and activities from the
    Discovery Education Network (DEN)
  • Invitations to special events where STAR Educators share ideas and resources
  • Opportunities to win resources for your classroom or trips to attend conferences
  • Discounts on Discovery Education and other technology products
  • STAR Educators can create their own personal blogs
  • The positive aspects ofbeing a contributing member to a large a group of like-minded educators.

After you answer the three questions, there are a few more things to fill out at the bottom.
Fill them out as you so desire. Click Continue at the bottom of Page One.

PAGETWO:This has three sections.

2. Take a Short Quiz on the video.The link to the quiz is below the links to the videos on the same page of the application you have been filling out.You do not have to access it as shown in the video; just clickthe link to the quizin the STAR application.

3. Once you have submitted your application & completed quiz, you must log your event

What is an Event?

Any time you share the power of Discovery with other educators (3 or more), you are hosting an event. Here are some examples of what constitutes an event:

• Share an integration idea over lunch

• Demonstrate a skill to your peers before, during, or after school

• Conduct a hands-on workshops in classrooms, computer labs, training centers, etc.

• Showcase sample student work or projects at Open House or PTA meetings

• Discuss ways to use digital media during planning sessions with members of school or district instructional committees

4. On the second page of the application, the 3rd step down asks you to Click here to log an event.

  • Near the bottom of the following page, fill out the form.
  • Make sure to indicate in the dropdown menu that YES, this is your STAR Application Event.
  • Submit the event.

Discovery will send you a congratulatoryemail and you'll be getting your Welcome Kit and Training Toolbox in the mail.
