2017Annual Meeting Minutes

January 28, 2018

Call to Order:

  • Council President Julie Woodman called the meeting to order at 11:04AM
  • Council Secretary Leslie Shank confirmed a quorum of 45 (30 required)

Devotions:

  • Pastor Nate Toso led a prayer and the opening liturgy
  • Hymn “Let Us Talents and Tongues Employ”

Review of Behavioral Covenant:

  • Julie Woodman read the BLLC Behavioral Covenants

Approval of Prior Year Meeting Minutes:

  • Peg Swanson moved to approve the minutes from the 2016 Annual Meeting and Terry Woodmanseconded. All present voted in favor. Motion approved.

Thank you to outgoing Council members:

  • Julie Woodman thanked outgoing council members Peg Swanson and Donis Kassen for their service. Their insights and hard work were greatly appreciated.
  • Congregation membersgave them a round of applause.

Nominees for Council member replacements:

  • 2018 Council nominees were presented for three open terms:
  • John Thon (will Skype from Arizona when he’s out of town)
  • Julie Johansen and Kim Richardson would like to share a spot
  • Leslie Shank will serve a second term
  • Nominations were opened to the floor. No additional nominations were received.
  • Katie Xiongmoved to nominate John, Julie/Kim and Leslie to the BLLC council. Gloria Dombrockseconded the motion. All present voted in favor. Motion approved.
  • Terry Woodman moved to vote for all three nominees by verbal acclaim rather than by ballot. Peg Karnuth seconded the motion. All present voted in favor. Motion approved.
  • Dennis Kassen moved to elect all three nominees to BLLC council by verbal acclaim. Deb Houtkooper seconded the motion. All present voted in favor. The motion to elect John, Julie/Kim and Leslie to BLLC Council was approved.

Cast ballots/ballot results: Ballots were unnecessary.

Old Business - 2017 review by Julie Woodman:

  • Bob Olson’s estate gift has now been mostly spent on needed projects around the church
  • Changed the quorum for an annual meeting from 50 to 30
  • Our Outreach projects are many and successful
  • The results of moving to one service have been very positive overall
  • We are a family and whether we are passing the peace or meeting in the hall or at an event, we are blessed to know the love and support of this family
  • Read the 2017 Annual Report for the rest of our many accomplishments during the year and VOLUNTEER if you have time

New Business

  • Proposed 2018 budget:BLLC Treasurer Bill Pringle discussed 2017 financial results and the proposed 2018 budget. BLLC ended the year 2017very strong, with an overage of approximately $13.6k which stays in checking to be used as needed. Overall the 2018 budget is very similar to the 2017 budget.
  • Except for the removal of the income/expense lines for the Bob Olson estate gift spending list approved by council last year, there were only a few minor changes
  • Enduring Gifts has increased by $3,000 the amount they will spend in 2018 over 2017
  • No questions or discussion
  • Ann O’Keefemade a motion to accept the 2018 budget as presented. Wuzzy Houtkooper seconded the motion. All voted in favor. The motion was approved.

Prayer and Benediction:

  • The Behavioral covenants were followed at this meeting.
  • Joel Hilpert moved to adjourn the meeting. Gloria Dombrock seconded the motion. All present voted in favor. The motion was approved.
  • Pastor Nate led singing “Be Present at Our Table Lord” for the Pot Luck meal following the meeting.
