Beating Bowel Cancer Fundraising Intern

Location: Beating Bowel Canceris based in Teddington, a leafysuburb in theLondon Borough of Richmond upon Thamesin south west London, 35 minutes from London Waterloo on the train.

Charity Profile:Bowel Cancer is the second biggest cancer killer in the UK yet over 90% of people will survive if diagnosed early. Beating Bowel Cancer is a leading UK charity for bowel cancer patients, raising awareness of symptoms, promoting early diagnosis and encouraging open access to treatment choice for those affected by bowel cancer. Through our work we aim to save lives and improve outcomes from this common cancer.

We are committed to improving bowel cancer awareness amongst both the healthcare profession and the general public. The charity provides authoritative support, advice and information about the disease, its symptoms, what to expect if diagnosed, and what treatment choices are available. We encourage people to communicate frankly about all aspects of this disease, and not to be embarrassed to talk about bottoms and bowels.

What does the role involve? The role involves working in the fundraising team (covering events, community, trusts, major donors and corporates) to support various team members in delivering their income targets. Specific duties include:

-Sourcing raffle and auction prizes for events

-Phoning potential London Marathon runners asking them to run for the charity

-Phoning supporters to thank them for fundraising for us

-Sending materials to supporters such as fundraising packs

-Helping to market our Spring 2014 events

-Updating our customer relationship management database

-Helping to produce the 2014 events calendar

-Updating our website

-Helping at events such as The Royal Parks Half Marathon, Run to the Beat and Comedy Night

-Researching potential new supporters including grant making trusts and companies across a range of websites

-Providing administrative support to members of the fundraising team

What support will I be given?

-SMART objectives set for the internship period

-Weekly supervision meetings

-In-house training and coaching on creating communications, events and marketing plans

-In-house training on using customer relationship management database (Donor Strategy)

-Coaching on telephone skills and customer service skills

-Coaching on fundraising techniques and best practice

-Inclusion in monthly team meetings and team building activities including social events
