FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Smith Mountain Lake, VA – Mar 16, 2016

Tickets for Roanoke Symphony SML 50th concert on sale March 15.

The Smith Mountain Arts Council (SMAC) and 50th Anniversary Celebration Steering Team have announced that tickets for the Roanoke Symphony Orchestra (RSO) performance of “A Salute to SML’s 50th: American Classics from Bernstein to Rodgers” are now available, both online and at area ticket outlets.

The favorites David Stewart Wiley has programmed for this concert reflect his fondness for Smith Mountain Lake and the people who live in and visit the SML Community. In addition to familiar selections that include “The Star Spangled Banner,” “76 Trombones,” “That’s Entertainment,” “A salute to Big Bands,” “West Side Story Selections,” “Armed Forces Salute” and “Sound of Music Melody,” the concert will feature the world premiere of his original composition, “Golden Fanfare for the Lake,” which honors the 50th anniversary.

Twenty-six RSO musicians will join Maestro Wiley here at SML for the Friday, May 20th concert. Said Wiley of the program: “The orchestra members and I are thrilled to share this music with our wonderful friends at the lake. All the selections--and especially the special new music written just for the occasion--are a wonderful showcase for these amazing musicians and a fitting celebration of fifty years since Full Pond. Viva SML!”

Doors at Resurrection Catholic Church on Route 122 one mile north of Hales Ford Bridge will open at 6:15 pm; the concert begins at 7 pm. Gold ticket holders ($60 for SMAC members; $67 for non-members) will be seated in reserved up-front center-section rows regardless of when they arrive. Their tickets will also admit them to a “Meet the Musicians” Afterglow wine and hors d’oeuvres reception immediately following the concert at nearby Bridgewater Bay Clubhouse, just across Route 122 from the concert venue.

Member One Federal Credit Union is the concert’s signature sponsor and Hickory Hill Vineyards will be wine hosts at the reception. Their specially formulated and labeled “50 Years of Making Memories” anniversary vintages will be on display.

General admission tickets are $32 for SMAC members and $40 for non-members. SMAC memberships may be easily purchased at SML Visitor Center, The General Store, Print-n-Paper, and Smith Mountain Flowers in Downtown Moneta, and online at www.smithmountainartscouncil.com. Orchestral music lovers and 50th Anniversary supporters are encouraged to act soon since seats for this Signature Event are expected to go fast.
