BCS FIELD TRIP PERMISSION SLIP AND INFORMATION SHEET

September 22nd 2014

Dear5/6 Parents

In order to enhance our students’ awareness of environmental issues and concerns within our local community, we will be participating in the Rouge Education Project (REP) again this year.REP is a school-based water quality monitoring program involving elementary, middle and high schools from across Southeastern Michigan. Students perform hands-on scientific exploration of the Rouge River including evaluating chemical, biological and physical parameters of water quality. We will be conducting tests in both fall and spring.

In order for students to engage in water testing and monitoring activities we will need parent volunteers to assist at the site with water sample collection and analysis. Unfortunately, transportation for parent volunteers cannot be provided due to the capacity of our school buses and the number of students. We will be hosting a training session for volunteers in school. If you are interested in participating as a parent volunteer and can commit to the training session and the testing date please complete the slip below and return it to your child’s science teacher as soon as possible.

The students will be going to the testing site at Linden Park in teams of 54 from 11:50 am – 2:45 pm on their assigned day. Testing dates are scheduled as followed:

Monday, October 6th– BrownFitz

Tuesday, October 7th – Cook Lowery

Wednesday, October 8th – Burns Burdick

Friday, October10th – Roberts Joseph

Students will be on the river bank so they will need to wear long pants, a warm jacket and appropriate footwear in the event of wet weather. If they have waders they would be perfect. They may require a change of clothes once they get back to school. Please complete the permission slip below and return it to your child’s science teacher as soon as possible.
