BCHS JH/HS ICU Program Overview

ICU

All students are expected to turn in their homework at BCHS JH/HS. A centralized location for staff to track missing work is set up (the LIST) and will be utilized on a daily basis to run the ICU program. If a student is on the list, they can be required to work on missing school work during the following intervention times:

1. During the 8th Period ICU time;

2. During the students lunch period;

3. After school from 4:00-4:30 p.m. (students will not be allowed to participate in extra-curricular practices until 4:30 p.m. if missing assignments. HOWEVER students will be allowed to participate in school events/games (IF ELIGIBLE) with other arrangements being made for the ICU period

Staff will contact parents when the student is required to stay after school.

Expectations for Staff:

  1. The list needs to be updated by 7:45 AM each morning and also update CAMPUS indicating those papers that have been turned in prior 8th period ICU class. This will ensure that we keep an accurate record of what a student is missing.
  2. If a student is going to stay after school, staff will be required to contact the parent of that student. Bus students will be given 1 day notification so transportation can be arranged. (A list of bus students will be given to each ICU teacher)
  3. During ICU period staff are to be working with students, helping them get work completed. Not grading papers/sitting at desk etc.
  4. Staff without students are to go to other ICU classrooms and provide assistance to students.

Expectations of Students:

  1. Students are to utilize the ICU period for making up any and all work they are missing.
  2. Students that are NOT on the LIST are to be working on current assignments and or reading. After the 3rd week of school, students NOT on the LIST will have choices if parent permission slip is signed.
  3. Students that are assigned a lunch or after school ICU time are expected to attend.
  4. Students skipping ICU will not only serve ISS but will be required to serve it until 4:30. Students may also be assigned Friday school.
  5. Students missing 5 or more assignments will be assigned to the ICU working lunch period. Students will also be called into the office to visit with the principal. At this time, we will go over the LIST, discuss what they are doing and what they need from us and if they need any extra help. We will also set goals and deadlines for assignments to be completed.
  6. Students who are called into the office will be required to turn in missing work to the classroom teacher. This MUST be done before school, after school or in between classes. Students are NOT to interrupt during class time.
  7. Students that are out for an activity (fine arts or athletics) and are on the LIST are not allowed to practice after school until 4:30. They are to be with the teacher who they are missing for and getting caught up. Students who have ICU on the day of a game or activity, if eligible, will attend the game or activity and attend ICU the next day.
  8. While in ICU, students are not allowed to use any personal electronics—phone, ipod, ipad etc.
