Principal’s Report by Chris Ross:

BCES made an “A” for our Federal ESEA grade.

Our school improvement council is seeking to partner with BASF to provide some science instruction for our younger grades.

President’s Report by Abigail Thompson:

Minutes from 10/8/14 meeting were discussed. The minutes are to be displayed on the BCES website.

PTA memberships total 693 (3 new members in October). Plan to make one last push for memberships before the holidays.

Boosterthon has a shirt sponsor – ”Davis Orthodontics of Simpsonville”.

Working on obtaining price quotes for playground shades.

Treasurer’s Report by Gretchen Pace:

The current budget was presented. A motion to approve was made by Gretchen Pace, seconded by Amy Prince,and approved without dissent.

VP Ways and Means Report by Abigail Thompson for Rosemary Slaton:

Rosemary Slaton is stepping down effective immediately. Rosemary’s responsibilities will be assumed by Abigail Thompson and Abby Rogers. An announcement will be sent to all board members to distribute to their volunteers.

School store has generated approximately $800 in net earnings year to date.

Recycling expects to receive a “Box Tops” check for $2,715.40 in December/January. “Labels for Education” is changing their incentive program from ordering items out of a catalogue to cash. More details to follow as they become available.

Spirit Night has collected $867.03 year to date. Next Spirit Night event is scheduled for Saturday November 8th from 10:00am to 7:00pm at “The Glazing Pot”.

Holiday Shop has received approximately 80% of the merchandise which has been sorted and priced. Supplies including white paper bags, wrapping paper, and tissue paper have been purchased.

VP Programs and Services Report by Holly Dowling:

Publishing Center is putting together a video to air on ENN that will detail what the publishing center does, and feature authors from last year.

Reflections school judging is complete. Winners have been announced. District judging is November 21st. State judging is in February. BCES entries are packaged and ready to be sent for judging. Trophies will be ordered after Christmas.

Mini Grants were all approved. The full $2,500 has been spent.

Volunteer’s Report by Amy Prince:

Great Book Exchange had 51% student participation with 1,058 books exchanged. Suggestions for next year; move the event to later in October, increase the book budget, mix up the order the classes attend from year to year. Next GBE is scheduled for January 2015.

Fall Staff Appreciation Luncheon is scheduled for Friday November 7th from 10:15am – 1:00pm. Food donations from parents will be collected in the school line Friday morning.

Thanksgiving lunch is scheduled for Thursday November 20th from 10:00am – 1:00pm. A request has been made for 6 volunteers. A SignUp Genius link will be submitted to Melinda for Communications starting 11/7/14.

Fall Book Fair is scheduled for November 17 – November 21. A volunteer SignUp Genius link will be submitted to Melinda for Communications as soon as all the details are available from Ash.

Holiday Shop is scheduled for December 1 – December 4 from 8:00am to 2:00pm and December 5 from 8:00am to 12:00pm. Two SignUp Genius links have been created, one for PTA board members (need 2 cashiers per hour) and one for all other volunteers (need 3 wrappers and 3 shoppers per hour). Links will be available by 11/7.

October volunteer of the month is Sharon Turner. Sharon was nominated by Jenine Williams.

Business Partner of the Year: Nominations are being considered.

Communications Report by Melinda Davidson:

An e-mail newsletter will be sent before the holidays. Deadline for submissions will be 11/25/14. The newsletter will be published 12/15. The newsletter will include YTD PTA highlights and a “Thank You” to all volunteers.
