WASHABLE UNIFORM CARE INSTRUCTIONS

PLEASE READ CAREFULLY!

WE REQUIRE GARMENTS BE TURNED INSIDE OUT FOR WASHING.

Always test wash one garment before doing the entire set. Water in different regions will react differently due to variations in mineral and chemical content.

JACKETS AND BIB PANTS:

Only jackets and bib pants made out of 100% polyester are washable. Machine-wash and dry gentle cycle (DO NOT OVERLOAD MACHINES). It is suggested to have a committee that takes care of garments, dividing the garments for washing using the same washing procedure to insure correct care. You should consider using the school team room if it has washing capabilities, keeping the load to a limited number of garments.

WASH A FEW AT A TIME:

Do not overload washer & dryer (4 to 6 pieces at a time). Use cool setting on dryer. A normal dryer will remove most wrinkles. Crease in pants will hold up with proper washing and drying. You may wish to have the pants professionally pressed after several washings and dryings. Be cautious to always allow garments to dry before placing into any garment bag and storing.

Always wash whites with whites and darks with dark colors. If a stain does occur sponge with water or use a stain wipe if at all possible so it doesn’t have time to set. You may use “Spray and Wash” and other non- chlorine stain removers when washing. Use only non-chlorine detergent as many detergents are harsh and have a bleaching ingredient that will cause colorfast fabric to migrate. It is suggested you soak two color garments in salt solution (1/4 to ½ cup per wash depending on size) or white vinegar water the first time you wash. Another preventative is to use “Carbona Dye Magnet”, a dry fabric treated material in the water, which will pick up any excess color.

If color migration occurs use “Carbona, Color Run Remover” or “Rit Fabric Treatment Color Remover”. After use, wash again as this usually will remove the color migration. Also, dry cleaning of the garment will usually remove color migrations.

BALDRICS AND GAUNTLETS:

All baldrics and gauntlets made from specialty or unique fabric (i.e. sequin, luster chrome, etc.) should be hand washed in cool water. Towel dry to remove excess water and lay flat to dry. Wash sequin as little as possible and always wash in cold water. If baldric or gauntlets are all poly gabardine they may be washed on gentle cycle in washer and put in dryer. Make sure to hook Velcro closure together when using in a machine.

SPECIAL FEATURES

ADJUST A CUFF OPTION:

A snap tape is placed at different increments inside the sleeve cuff to eliminate sewing a hem when changing members. There are 4 length options possible by using any position, including unsnapped length.

EXTENDED SHOULDERS:

If jacket has extended shoulders or soft padded wings, fold them back onto the shoulder pad during washing and drying. This is also recommended when transporting uniforms. This is not needed for Mylar inserted wings.

BUTTONS:

Buttons are tack back buttons. Top of button is plated brass, which will not rust. Back of button and tacks have a rust resistant coating. Buttons can be removed by taking tack off with a pair of pliers. If necessary, buttons are replaced by pushing tack through fabric and pushing button onto tack.

VELCRO

Make certain that the hook inside of the Velcro is not exposed when laundering uniform; otherwise the Velcro will unnecessarily pick the fabric. If the jacket itself does have both the hook (hard side) and loop (soft side) of the Velcro, hook together evenly so hook side is not exposed.

EXCESS FRICTION OF VELCRO OR SEQUIN MAY PICK THE FABRIC. THIS IS EASILY REMOVED WITH AN ELECTRIC BEARD TRIMMER.

PRECAUTIONS:

Always wear a t-shirt, thermo-underwear or other absorbent shirt under jacket.Excess perfume or hairspray should not be sprayed on or next to garment. The residue from these items will cause build up on the fabric or sequins and cause discoloration.

Repairs should be made as needed. Minor seam, sequin or trim loosening must be addressed to keep the problem from becoming worse.

Proper hanging and drying of garments after each use is necessary. NEVER STACK OR STORE DAMP OR WET GARMENT FROM WATER OR PERSPIRATION. DO NOT PLACE IN A GARMENT BAG. ALWAYS ALLOW GARMENTS TO DRY OUT.

DRY CLEANING:

Can garments be dry-cleaned? Yes.

HOWEVER, NEVER DRY CLEAN OR IRON SEQUINS, METALLIC DOT FABRIC OR LAMINATED FABRICS.
