BASW Cymru Social Work Awards 2016
BASW Cymru invites nominations for individual social workers or teams of social workers, whether directly employed or working independently, who have delivered great service in line with the BASW Cymru code of ethics http://cdn.basw.co.uk/upload/basw_95243-9.pdf
Ethical awareness is fundamental to the professional practice of social workers. Their ability and commitment to act ethically is an essential aspect of the quality of the service offered to those who engage with social workers. Respect for human rights and a commitment to promoting social justice are at the core of social work practice throughout the world.
BASW Cymru’s Social Work Awards recognise those who have made a great contribution in the following categories:
Innovative Social Work
Spirit of Social Work
Social Work Team
Practice Teacher
Lifetime Achievement
The winners will be announced on the evening of Tuesday 11 October 2016 at our Awards Ceremony which will be held in the prestigious Senedd Building in Cardiff Bay. Those judged worthy will receive a Certificate of Achievement, and the winner or winners in each category will also receive an engraved trophy and a year’s free membership of BASW.

APPLICATION CRITERIA
Innovative Social Worker
This Award is for the individual social worker who has been innovative in pioneering projects for the benefit of service-users, their carers or families. Their work should demonstrate good social work skills in practice, with a commitment to BASW’s Code of Ethics. www.basw.co.uk/codeofethics.
Spirit of Social Work
The Award is for an individual social worker who provides an excellent service that makes a difference to the lives of the children, adults or communities with whom they work and which is ‘over and above’ their normal role. Their work should demonstrate the true Spirit of Social Work by excellent social work skills in practice, alongside evidence of commitment to BASW’s Code of Ethics www.basw.co.uk/codeofethics and the achievement of positive outcomes for service users.
Social Work Team
The Award is for those teams that can evidence how they make a positive difference to the lives of those children, adults or communities with whom they are working which should be ‘over and above’ their normal role. The team should be able to demonstrate its effectiveness and unique contribution that it makes to either Adult or Children’s Services along with the benefits to the service-users. There should be good team spirit and evidence of a commitment to BASW’s Code of Ethics www.basw.co.uk/codeofethics . The nominated social work team must include at least 3 qualified social workers who are registered with the Care Council for Wales.
Practice Teacher
This Award is for the individual social worker, practice teacher or practice assessor who has made an invaluable contribution to the education and development of practice teaching in Wales. They will have been involved in mentoring, supervising or assessing a minimum of 3 student social workers who have been successful in their placements. Their work should show a commitment to BASW’s Code of Ethics. www.basw.co.uk/codeofethics.
Lifetime Achievement
This Award is open to qualified social workers, team leaders and managers who have made a career of social work, have worked consistently to improve social work practice and have become a role model and inspiration to the profession. The Nominee’s social work expertise may demonstrate excellent social work skills, innovation or leadership in practice, development in social care and/or services, or contribution to research or education and training. There should be a commitment to BASW’s Code of Ethics www.basw.co.uk/codeofethics and the achievement of positive outcomes for service users.
All nominees for the Lifetime Achievement Award should have a minimum 20 years social work or social care experience and entries should include information about career history, individual achievements and how the nominee’s work has made a significant difference to the lives of service users and the profession. Entries may include endorsements and testimonials from service-users and/or colleagues (see below).
General Criteria
Each category is open to all fully qualified social workers who are registered with the Care Council for Wales. They will need to be currently working in Wales in either childcare or adult services whether as directly employed or independent social workers. Nominees do not have to be members of BASW.
Please complete your entry using the application form only. A separate form must be completed for each entry submitted. All entries may include endorsements and testimonials from service-users and/or colleagues (see below).
Nominees may enter themselves into individual categories or a third party may nominate them. All third party nominators must include their contact details and all nominators must have informed the nominee of the nomination.

6. All supporting material (e.g. testimonies from service-users, carers and other professionals) must be attached to the nomination.
7. Nominations can include other media forms to back up the written submission but, if used, they must be time-limited to 10 minutes maximum. They must also comply with their organisation’s Data Protection Policy and it is the nominator’s responsibility to check this.
