BASKETBALL POLICIES AND GUIDELINES FOR TEAM SELECTION
Important dates to remember
- Monday 10/30 – first day of official practice and tryouts for all prospective Varsity and JV players
- Starting practice time is 3:30 in the weight room on Monday 10/30 for Varsity/JV. You must have your own transportation (this is tentative and will be announced prior to practice).
- Thursday 3:30- Shoes and bags will be purchased at this time for all team members (this date could change) (includes compression shirt). Bring cash, credit card or check. There will be sale rep fitting all players for proper sizing.
- There will be preseason conditioning and open gym workouts that will start on Tuesday, Sept. 12 at 3:30 in the weight room. The pre season conditioning schedule will be given out on the first day of conditioning.
- Jv practice on Monday will be from 3-5 (tentative)
- Weekly practice schedule will be given out during first week. It could change depending on volleyball district playoffs.
**You must have all forms in to participate in the conditioning and open gym.
*You must be at tryouts in order to be selected for the team. There will be no late tryouts or special practices allowing players who did not attend at the start of practices on 10/30. (exception transfer students after 10/30)
*All players participating in a fall sport (Football, CC, etc.) are excused from basketball practice until after their sport is completed. Be sure to make the Coaching Staff aware of any conflicts.
*Basketball information card filled out and turned into coaches.
Important items needed before allowed to tryout:
- Physical- You must have a physical turned in and on file before you can tryout.
- Participation form/Relevant information regarding athletics form- This form must be notarized and turned in and signed in all places before practice.
- Insurance form- Insurance must be purchased online. See brochure included with packet. A list has been generated of all players that have turned this in. *(if you have participated in Preseason conditioning or were in a fall sport you should have this)
- ENTIRE ATHLETIC PACKET MUST BE TURNED IN AND COMPLETED.
- All items have to be turned in before Oct. 27 in order to participate. There are no exceptions.
- ELIGIBLE AND ON TRACK (Juniors and Seniors) Freshmen and Sophomores. This semester grades will also be checked for all players. *If grades are poor, it could result in non-selection no matter the skill level of the player.
- You may pick up an Information Packet from Coach Carden.
- A COMPLETED BLUE FORM MUST BE TURNED IN TO COACH CARDEN BEFORE PARTICIPATION IN ANY PRACTICES OR WORKOUTS.
Important items needed for first day of practice:
- Black shorts and two white t shirts. One for weight room and outside. The other for the gym.
- 2 pairs of shoes- one pair for outside on concrete and basketball shoes for inside the gym. (Optional but highly recommended)
- Gym bag to store all gear in. This will be stored by the wall outside the gym during practice. No gear in gym during practice. No cell phones will be allowed in practice or weight room.
- Ankle braces if you have them
Rules and Guidelines for Practices:
- Be on time. Arrive ten minutes early for weight room or practice time.
- No headbands, do rags, or hats are to be worn in practice or in the building. Wristbands are permitted.
- No earrings or other body piercings are to be worn during practice or any team functions. First offense- ask to remove it. Second offense- ask to leave.
- Hair needs to be neat and well kept. No hairdos or facial hair that draws attention to yourself.
- Shirts are to be tucked in at all times during weight room and practices. This should also be observed during tryouts.
- NO PROFANITY- do not say anything that sounds like it.
- HUSTLE and give effort at all times. It’s ok to not know how to do something. It’s not ok to loaf and not give effort.
Items to know if you are selected for the team:
- You must attend all practices. There are no excuses for missing practices. If you make the team, you are required to attend all practices. It is your responsibility to secure transportation if needed.
- There will be a Team Shoe/Backpack/Travel Suits Package that each player will be required to purchase. See attached sheet.
- We will do fundraisers to help raise monies for other items in the program. (T-shirts, sweatshirts, ankle braces, tournament fees, and other items).
- You will be putting in a lot of time. On the floor, in the weight room, outside and inside the classroom.
- You must be coachable and willing to take constructive criticism. There will be no attitude problems on this team. If you have an attitude problem or are unwilling to listen, this is not the sport or team for you.
- You must wear your travel suits or dress nice and appropriate for all games, especially away games. This will be set forth by the coach the day before a game or communicated to the team.
- You must maintain good grades. A weekly progress report will be sent around each Friday. Failure to turn in progress reports could result in missing games. There is a possibility of weekly eligibility.
- No Discipline referrals. No ISS. Game suspensions could result from misbehavior in the classroom.
- This team will not be easy to make. You will be asked to do more than you think you are capable.
I acknowledge and understand all the rules and guidelines set up for me inorder for my selection on the basketball team. I am willing to abide by all policies set up in order to be an integral part of this team.
