Basketball of the Carolinas

2017 Eligibility Information

Boys Basketball:

Basketball of the Carolinas will operate on an age based system for boy’s basketball age’s 9u-14u. Once players are in the 9th grade, Basketball of the Carolinas will operate on a grade based system. Boy’s basketball is able to use 3 late summer birthday exceptions (bottom of page).

9U– player must be 9 years old or younger on August 31, 2017

10U – player must be 10 years or younger on August 31, 2017

11U – player must be 11 years old or younger on August 31, 2017

12U – player must be 12 years old or younger on August 31, 2017

13U – player must be 13 years old or younger on August 31, 2017

14U – player must be 14 years old or younger on August 31, 2017

9th Grade – player must be in the 9th grade as of October 1, 2016, must be 16 years old or younger on August 31, 2017.

or a player in the 10th grade that does not turn 16 prior to September 1, 2017

10th Grade – player must be in the 10th grade as of October 1, 2016, must be 17 years old or younger on August 31, 2017.

Or player in the 11th grade that does not turn 17 prior to September 1, 2017

11th/12th Grade – player must be in the 11th or 12th grade as of October 1, 2016, must be 19 years old or younger on August 31, 2017

*note: players may play up in older grade divisions, but can not play down. They must fit the grade/age requirements to play in a division or be younger and playing up. Meaning a 7th grader can play up in the 8th grade division or higher, but that same 7th grader can not play down in the 6th grade division.

Players must show proof of age (copy of birth certificate or another state issued formsuch as a driver’s license) and proof of current grade (copy of school issued report card orprogress report from the current school year). HomeSchool players must have all properproof showing their current grade level and updated/current STATE DOCUMENTS.

Late Summer Birthday Exceptions

Basketball of the Carolinas will allow (3) late summer birthday exception players per team. The player must meet the criteria to fit the exception rule:

A player who has a birthday July 1- August 31 and has not failed or repeated any grades during school may participate at the following age levels for 9U-14U.

9U: player must be in 3rd grade as of October 1, 2016 and is age 9 or younger on

July 1, 2017

10U: player must be in 4th grade as of October 1, 2016and is age 10 or younger on

July 1, 2017

11U: player must be in 5th grade as of October 1, 2016 and is age 11 or younger on

July 1, 2017

12U: player must be in 6th grade as of October 1, 2016 and is age 12 or younger on

July 1, 2017

13U: player must be in 7th grade as of October 1, 2016 and is age 13 or younger on

July 1, 2017

14U: player must be in 8th grade as of October 1, 2016 and is age 14 or younger on

July 1, 2017

Girls Basketball:

Basketball of the Carolinas will operate on a grade based system for girl’s basketball grades 3rd-12th for the 2017 season.

3rd Grade- player must be in 3rd grade as of October 1, 2016 and can not turn 11 before September 1, 2017.

or a player in the 4th grade that does not turn 10 prior to September 1, 2017.

4th Grade- player must be in 4th grade as of October 1, 2016 and can not turn 12 before September 1, 2017.

or a player in the 5thgrade that does not turn 11 prior to September 1, 2017.

5th Grade- player must be in 5th grade as of October 1, 2016 and can not turn 13 before September 1, 2017.

or a player in the 6thgrade that does not turn 12 prior to September 1, 2017.

6th Grade- player must be in 6th grade as of October 1, 2016 and can not turn 14 before September 1, 2017.

or a player in the 7thgrade that does not turn 13 prior to September 1, 2017

7th Grade- player must be in 7th grade as of October 1, 2016 and can not turn 15 before September 1, 2017.

or a player in the 8thgrade that does not turn 14 prior to September 1, 2017.

8th Grade- player must be in 8th grade as of October 1, 2016 and can not turn 16 before September 1, 2017.

or a player in the 9thgrade that does not turn 15 prior to September 1, 2017.

9th Grade- player must be in 9th grade as of October 1, 2016 and can not turn 17 before September 1, 2017.

or a player in the 10thgrade that does not turn 16 prior to September 1, 2017.

10thGrade- player must be in the 10th grade as of October 1, 2016 and can not turn 18 before September 1, 2017

or a player in the 11th grade that does not turn 17 prior to September 1, 2017

11th/12thGrade- player must be in 11th or 12th grade as of October 1, 2016 and can not turn 20 before September 1, 2017.
