Training Strategy and Implementation Plan

Working together to safeguard children and young people from child sexual exploitation

Introduction

This training strategy sets out the commitment of North Tyneside Safeguarding Children Board (NTSCB) to undertake the development and delivery of training in order tohelp tackle child sexual exploitation (CSE). The strategy has been informed by the NTLSCB Child Exploitation Strategy, as well as from the learning from local and national serious case reviews and local intelligence.

Whilst this strategy predominately relates to children (those under the age of 18 years)it is closely linked with the sexual exploitation of adults at risk. Over time, these links will be strengthened, and consideration will be given to joint working and training across services for children and adults in order to maximise resources and develop joint ways of working and learning together.

Aim and objectives

The aim of providingCSE training, for those working directly or indirectly with children and families, is toenable them tocontribute to safeguarding childrenwho are experiencing and/or at risk of this form of child abuse.

The objectives are to develop the understanding, knowledge and skillsin relation to CSE, by supporting the workforce to;

  • Understand what is meant by child sexual exploitation
  • Recognise ‘models’ of sexual exploitation
  • Identify signs of child sexual exploitation, vulnerabilities and risk indictors
  • Identify what child sexual exploitation looks like in North Tyneside
  • Recognise professional roles and the role of other agencies in identifying and responding to child sexual exploitation
  • Identifying models of ‘good practice’ in working with children and young people at risk

Implementation plan

The table below sets out the key audience (groups of learners), key learning objectives and methods of delivery for CSE training. This plan will be subject to continuous review and monitoring. Progress will be reported to the NTSCB Strategic Training Sub-group by the Children’s Workforce Development Lead on a quarterly basis.
