Basha Wrestling

Rules and Expectations

The goal of our program is to produce athletes who are in superior condition and can outlast any opponent using proper technique. We will achieve this goal through intense drilling of correct technique and focus on high percentage moves. Our Wrestlers will develop an aggressive attitude and always be on the attack. In order to accomplish these goals our Wrestlers must be disciplined. These rules are put in place to make you a better Wrestler. Without discipline you will never reach your potential.

Violation of team rules can result in dismissal from the team and forfeiture of a letter or individual awards.

Rules

·  The use, abuse, possession, selling or being under the influence of any type of alcoholic beverage or drugs is prohibited. (Including smoking) as per school district policy.

·  Unexcused absence from practice or matches is prohibited. Three or more can result in dismissal from the team.

·  Do not take anything that does not belong to you.

·  Wrestlers must travel to and from matches with the team. Do not leave the site of competition without permission.

·  All injured Wrestlers must dress out and attend all practices and meets. Be a part of the Team.

·  You are responsible for the return of all equipment and must pay for anything that is lost.

·  No Unnatural hair color or haircuts that detract from the team.

·  When in Team Uniform, only school issued apparel is allowed. No hats, earrings/jewelry. Look like a team, be professional.

·  Only Wrestlers, Coaches and Managers are allowed in the Wrestling room.

·  Roster spots are filled by wrestle offs, however the coaching staff reserves the right to make final decisions at any time.

·  Defiance or disrespect toward any member of the coaching staff will not be tolerated and can result in dismissal from the team.

·  All Wrestlers will participate in moving and setting up mats for competition, do not assume someone will do it for you. We will all contribute to cleaning our room which includes sweeping, vacuuming and mopping.

·  You may not participate in another sport during wrestling season, commit to your Team.

Guidelines for a Successful Season

·  Be on time for all practices. Practice times are: Green Team (Frosh) from 2:30 PM to 4:00 PM and Gold Team (Soph-Sr) from 3:30 PM to 5:30. On Friday’s everyone practices at 2:30. Saturday’s and Holidays we will practice at 8 a.m. (Everyone)

·  Be Coachable – Listen, Do what you are told, Be Successful.

·  Be Positive, Don’t talk down or put down your teammates.

·  Attitude/Character - Your behavior reflects our Team, our School and your Family. Be respectful and show good sportsmanship, this includes Foul language.

·  Prevent Skin Infections: Shower after all practices/clean your practice gear. Keep clean shirts in your locker at all times. Skin check yourself everyday. Report any problems. Due to the nature of our sport (bodily contact), it would be wise to always have antibacterial soap and a tube of Clotrimazole, which is an anti-fungal medication. This is an over-the-counter product and comes in either brand names (Lotrimin, Tinactin, and Lamisil) or generic. It is probably the most effective formula for fungal infection.

·  Practices are designed to improve conditioning and skill, not to lose weight!

No plastic sweats or long sleeve sweat shirts or pants are allowed during practice. If you condition your body properly, you will not have a weight problem. Body composition measurements are much better indicators of your fitness level and give us a clearer picture of what weight class you should be competing in. The scale really does not tell you very much. We will keep up to date records of your body composition (body fat). This will help you and the coaching staff determine what would be the best weight-class for you to compete in.

·  “Associate with people of good qualities, preferably your teammates. Work hard and your dedication will pay off.”

"The 1st period is won by the best technician. The 2nd period is won by the kid in the best shape. The 3rd period is won by the kid with the biggest heart." – J. Robinson

"I'm a big believer in starting with high standards and raising them. We make progress only when we push ourselves to the highest level. If we don't progress, we backslide into bad habits, laziness and poor attitude." - Dan Gable
