Based at our Accrington office and working as part of the ADHD North West team, the post-holder will provide a specialist service to parents and families affected by an Attention Deficit Disorder and associated conditions throughout East Lancashire. The work will include outreach support, attendance at case meetings, delivery of our specialist ADHD: Parent Empowerment & Skills Training programme, and participation in fora.

Applicants should have:

  • a recognised qualification in literacy and numeracy of at least level 2
  • a level 2/3 or above qualification in a field relating to children, parents, and families
  • experience of working with parents and families on a 1:1 basis and in group situations
  • experience of lone working and as part of a team
  • the ability to assess needs and work with the team to identify and introduce positive approaches and strategies to enable sustainable change
  • level 2 safeguarding children training

Unless already obtained or exempt through existing or higher qualifications, the post-holder will be required to undertake over time:

  • ADHD Parenting Practitioner (in-house and on-the-job) training
  • Level 3/4 Certificate in Working with Parents
  • Level 3 Award in Education and Training (previously PTLLS)
  • Safeguarding Vulnerable Adults training (including the Mental Capacity Act)
  • Sexual Exploitation; Forced Marriage, Honour-based Violence, Female Genital Mutilation; and PREVENT training
  • Any other courses or training deemed necessary by ADHD North West and/or funding bodies
  1. Key Purpose of Post
  2. To deliver parent and family support appropriate to the needs of individual families, to the standard required, and in accordance with the contractual obligations existing between ADHD North West and its funders
  3. To liaise and work with statutory services, voluntary sector organisations, and multi-agency teams to ensure effective support and to meet the requirements of Every Child Matters and Every Parent Matters

  1. Key Duties
  2. Delivery of our 9-session ADHD: Parent Empowerment & Skills Training programme following training
  3. Provision of an outreach support service for parents and families
  4. Provision of written reports and attendance at case meetings when necessary
  5. Working with families on time limited, task orientated, pieces of work
  6. Building effective relationships with families to promote positive changes
  7. Encouraging constructive communication between parents and schools to promote understanding, improve attendance, attainment, and behaviour
  8. Assisting families to access other services and agencies as appropriate
  9. To understand the Common Assessment Framework process and the required outcomes of Every Child Matters and Every Parent Matters
  10. To maintain records in line with the policies, procedures, and monitoring requirements of ADHD North West and its funders

  3. Ensure that equipment & materials are not neglected, misused, or damaged
  4. Report any hazard, accident, damage or defect in order that remedial action may be undertaken.
  5. Undergo training or instruction as required to ensure competence and safety

5.1Commitment to completion of contract and continuance subject to funding

5.7Fulfil any other duties deemed appropriate by ADHD North West and its funders

5.8As this post meets the requirements in respect of exempted questions under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974, all applicants who are offered employment will be subject to an Enhanced Criminal Record Check (Disclosure & Barring) from the Criminal Records Bureau before the appointment is confirmed. This will include details of ALL cautions, reprimands or final warnings as well as convictions, whether “spent” or “unspent”. Criminal convictions will only be taken into account when they are relevant to the post.
